unless Wade gets much better at the X's and O's of this game, then the results of last year is about our ceiling and most years it won't be nearly that good of an outcome
Well since you are such a knowledgeable observer and evaluator of basketball x's and o's, how about you expand on this statement and tell us what Wade needs to be better at?
If you are referring to offense, then GTFO the conversation now, because you obviously don't know what you are talking about.
If it is defense, then please share what he needs to do from an x's and o's standpoint to be better. Because while their defense has been poor and Wade certainly carries some of the blame and needs to improve in this area, the players of the past have to shoulder blame here as well for poor execution and hustle at times on the defensive end of the floor.

To put things in a bit of perspective, Arkansas played a scrimmage vs. a team called "East Central" (which may or may not be a fictional high school on Saved by the Bell) and won by 2...with at least 4 of their projected starters playing significant minutes.
Alabama played (a good) ULL...in Tuscaloosa, and had to come from behind to win by 5. Alabama played several starters significant minutes
LSU played AT a NSU team that is picked to win the Southland Conf....without 3 starters...and won by 12

To show you how much the coaches respect Pinson and Days..................
BOTH HAVE BEEN NAMED TO THE PRESEASON COACHES ALL SEC TEAM.
believe me when I tell you both those guys will have outstanding seasons.

Good points.
I believe it was 2017 where we lost to Tulane in a similar type of charity scrimmage, then went on to beat Michigan a couple weeks later.
These things don't mean much. Especially when you're missing starters.

TigerLaw40 here me out on this I know it may be a stretch but here me out.
Stromile Swift 6'9" 225
Jabari Smith 6'11" 250
Efton Reid 6'11" 245
Tari Eason 6'8" 215
If Efton and Tari can give us similar production to what Stromile and Jabari gave us the stars could align for us this year!!!
I truly feel we have more talent top to bottom on this roster with true rim protectors that we haven't had since Bigby-Wiliams.

Very true.
But the fact that LSU was able to go on the ROAD and beat what is anticipated to be a decent mid-major team by double-digits, WITHOUT what are likely to be their 3 top scorers is encouraging relative to the fact two teams picked ahead of them in the SEC seem to have struggled...at HOME...with most of their starting line ups playing 30+ minutes.
Does that mean Arkansas and Alabama will suck? Of course not. But it probably gives Wade a little bit of encouragement that he has some other guys on his roster beyond the 3 starters (really 4 if you consider Miller) that can play.

It is certainly in the realm of possibility for Reid to have the same level of production as Jabari did his freshman year (which was very similar to his production his sophomore year).
But if Eason matches Stromile's numbers his sophomore year, then I'll have a round of drinks (on me) waiting for you at the end of the season.

Clearly a tourney team. Very new cast of characters that need time to jell. Lost our best player last week and that will set up back early on as the young guards get more experience. I don’t see us advancing in to second weekend unless the draw dictates favorable matchup. This team is working very hard on transition D and D rebounding. How they do at those two will determine their fate.

Losing Miller is going to throw a wrench into our offensive plans but I’m interested to see how we’ll use Efton Reid and his potential to be one of our top offensive contributors. Reid has a very polished offensive game that includes shooting range, the knock on him is his athleticism and physicality. We could use him the way Wade used Duop Reath his first season as a post presence as well as a pick and pop guy at the top of the key. I don’t believe it’s a reach to think that Reid can replicate Reaths 12ppg number along with being a more productive rebounder and defender. If we can get that out of him, Days maintains or improves his scoring just a bit, Pinson gives us 13-14 ppg with improvements from guys like Gaines, Eason and Wilkerson along with impact from Murray, O’Neal and Fudge the offense won’t backup nearly as much as some think. You couple that with the improved length, and athleticism overall plus defensive minded players like Eason, O’Neal and Wilkerson and the pieces are there for us to have a big year. Like you said it’s about how they gel but I think we surprise people this season.

Depends how well we come together. I could see this team being anywhere from a 1 and done to potentially making a final four run.
I think it really will benefit us in that we have a fairly weak non conference schedule. Wade should get to experiment with a few different rotations. Some of those head scratching early season losses he usually has could end up being ugly wins.
When if gets to league play, I’d still only expect us to play 8 guys. Maybe 9. That 38-1 UK team played two rotations of 5 and Cal said he would never do anything like that again.
I’d expect your starting 5 to be
Pinson
Murray
Days
Eason
Reid
Primary bench players being
Wilkinson
Gaines
Fudge
Maybe he tosses O’Neal a few minutes here and there.
My prediction would be 11-7 in league play finish in a tie for 3rd or 4th. I don’t think you’ll see anyone like Alabama last year or LSU in 2019 that goes 15-3 or 16-2. There are too many good teams. 13-5 will probably win the league in regular season.
Post season wise my prediction would be a Sweet 16 team. We made it in 2019, we nearly beat Michigan last year. I think this team has size and athleticism to match anyone. Michigan gave us size issues, being that all we had post wise was Watford. Question on how far ww get is who will score the ball and will we defend? This team has potential to be really good defensively with their length

And yet he was still going to be our leading scorer. Yea he averaged 9 PPG last year for Illinois who was the #2 overall seed in the NCAA tournament playing in mostly 3 and 4 guard lineups with the most productive center in college basketball. Miller was a 5 star recruit for a reason because he can score and score and bunches. I’ve watched the guy play since he was a Sophomore in HS. He was the go to guy in scrimmages for us and was very good in Team USA U19. There’s a reason Will Wade and everybody that really follows the team was excited about stealing Adam Miller away from Illinois and why Illinois fans were pissed to lose him. But it is what it is unfortunately he got hurt you’ll see in 2022 when he returns how good of a player he is.

He tore his ACL in practice.

First off I love LSU basketball and I love Will Wade. That said I don't think we are as talented and deep as some think. Lots of new players I have never seen play so how can we rank them as a high tournament team? It seems the three players I do know will be starting, at least based on the first scrimmage and what Wade has said. That would be Wilkinson, an undersized 3 who can jump and hustles, Gaines, a guard who has physical ability but played out of control most of the time, and Darius Dayes who is also undersized but can board and shoot.
So we really need some of our big guys to fill the remaining spot. If we can get that and get some team chemistry we will possibly make it to the tournament but it will be a long haul in the touch SEC.

I think we had 6 guys sitting out for the scrimmage. Pinson will start probably in front of Gaines and Reid will start also probably with Days maybe Wilkinson and Eason. The guys who played in the scrimmage are mostly subs except for Eason and maybe Murray starts at the 2 instead of Wilkinson.

Gaines is not starting unless Pinson gets hurt.

Wilkinson is a well built and high flying 6’5” wing. He’s not undersized at the 3.

Agreed. I think people need to temper their EXPECTATIONS, not hopes for the season.

Pinson, Days and Reid are starters. The other two spots are a bit unknown, but I would bet Murray likely starts at the 2 guard spot. A week ago I would have said Wilkinson is the starter at the 3. However (and it was only one scrimmage) Eason may be too good to leave on the bench and you see him start at the 3.
You are going to see some mixing and matching in Nov/December to find the right line up. So other than Pinson, Days and Reid, the starting line up isn't set in stone

I never said he wasn't a good player. Adam was not a 5 star. Stop. He was a 4 star and was the #33 ranked shooting guard in the nation.
Wade never once said he was going to be the leading scorer on the team.
Miller is a big blow but LSU has enough depth at the position for us to be fine without him.

Loads of talent but will under achieve. We will probably be 10-8 in the SEC. Probably end up a 10 or 11 seed in the tournament.
Posted on 10/27/21 at 8:40 am to Earthquake 88
Simply put it's impossible to know. Miller being out certainly puts a damper on top end expectations but we simply dont know how this group will end up playing with one another with as many new faces as there are.
I will say the team's strength is still in its depth but we NEED guys to not start dropping out where we end up with only 8 or 9 players once again even really able to play. I'm getting worried we may start to not see guys as the season starts because they are either being redshirted (Ezewiro?) or fighting injuries - Williams + O'Neal.
