Are the people nice? Food decent? Totally random but I’m just curious.

Outside looking in it seems like a quiet place that’s good to raise a family. State of Iowa that is. Not the town in La

I lived in Des Moines for 3 years. It's awesome. The people are extremely friendly (but not touchy-feely like the south). The wide open spaces and rolling hills are pretty. Winters are very cold, but it's not that bad. Hunting is great. They also have Kum and Go.

Eta: Des Moines has some great restaurants

The meat quality in the grocery is excellent.

West Des Moines is awesome. That’s about all I can say.

I've read that the famous Iowa State Fair is now quite sketchy due to changing consumer habits

A group of polite young gentlemen wrote a whole album about this 25 years ago.

Another thing - foreign to me from Louisiana - was that all gas stations had the same fuel prices

So Des Moines is the place to be? How’s the demographics out there compared to Louisiana?

Play golf with a retired guy who chose to move to Arkansas from Iowa from just driving thru to Texas.

He said he hated the weather.

Hasn't been fond of the 100 degree days last couple years either.

Almost none (I lived there from 2010-13)

The downtown was one of the cleanest and safest I have ever seen. Also, all the buildings downtown are connected by skywalks so you don't have to go outside in the winter.

That sounds nice. How’s the economic outlook? Is the medical field solid?

Spent a month in Des Moines one week. Lots or pork on the menu and they also managed to create fried chicken that has no flavor.

The people were some of the nicest and welcoming I’ve ever been around though.

In my experience this is true in most of the Midwest. Good folks.
