What will Pickett's role be this season?

I've seen people say that Pickett is another Stingley, so I'm interested in what type of role he will play in our defense. Also I wonder how we will roll out our defense for the first game?

Shut down number 1 CB.
I'm mostly joking but I do think he starts.

Supposedly he's the real deal. I obviously haven't seen him play, but between the stories I read during his recruitment and more recently from the media during the bowl practices/spring practices, it sounds like he's going to be damn good and more like what we're used to seeing at DB. I think he's like 6'4" or so. Add that height to his skill level and it almost seems like a cheat code.
I think he'll be starting opposite of Mansoor Delane.
I also think many people on this board are selling our defense a little short coming in to the year. I think our defense is going to be a force this year. If our running game can get going to help give our defense a little in game rest, I think our defense will end up being top 30 or so in the country.
ETA - LSUsports.net has him listed at 6'5".
That's crazy for a CB.

He'll be starting by g4 if he's elite as they say he is. We dont have anybody on the team with his size and speed at CB. Can he lockdown WR1's on the best teams in the SEC his first year? That's a tall task.
If he could have a Cordale Flott type first year I'd take that. If he's anything above, that's just phenomenal

Thats what I've heard as well, I kinda thought Delane would be CB1, Pickett CB2 and then either Stamps or Woodland playing in the slot

I would prefer Cooley to start slot corner and Haulcy and Spears at the safety positions

Go look at his high school tapes. Dude is the tallest guy on the field most plays.

I'm not sure how it'll all shake out, but it also wouldn't surprise me if Stamps or Woodland started.
It feels like we're finally getting back to the DBU days.
Let's hope they play like it this year.

I could see that as well. This is the first time in a while that I feel that we have a lot of very good pieces, especially in our secondary.

That's wild he's so tall!
I'll have to go check out some of his HS highlights.

Stingley was another breed. He had an NFL physique his freshman year and was one of the best CBs in the country as an 18 year old.
Pickett has an unreal ceiling, but he's not as SEC ready out of high school physically as Stingley.

My nightmare scenario is that Stamps will start game 1 and not turn around and look for the ball yet again while DJ comes off the bench and looks the part but one of Clemson’s star receivers will score a late game TD to win it while DJ is back on the bench in favor of Stamps. BK will complain about it and say how he and the staff “didn’t make the right moves to win the game” or some shite and we shall start 0-1 yet again doing the same thing we’ve done the last 4 seasons, which is going with the more “experienced guy” when it’s completely obvious that he’s not the best guy.

More tha likely Pickett will be DB3 so that he has a smaller playbook he has to master. I think it’s likely that Delane and Woodland start in the base defense, then Woodland moves to nickel and Pickett plays the outside corner. Stamps would be the Dime. Maybe Pickett starts out as the outside corner in the Dime package, then works his way into outside corner in the nickel. This would start him out with a small playbook and gradually add to it.

I dont think he atarts at all. I think Woodland gets that nod over him. He may develop and take a spot. He will see so meaningful playing time for sure.

Remember Pat P? That’s what he will be

Well, Blake Ruffino said on AYS that back in the spring there was only one DB on the field that could stop Hilton. And that was Pickett so take that for what it’s worth. I personally think Pickett is too gifted of a talent to keep off of the field even as a freshman.

Pickett more represents Patrick Peterson type. I’m not saying he’s as good as Patrick Peterson. I’m just saying that’s what he would more represent rather than stingly.

Kelly will go with experience but talent will eventually win out
