I don’t even think it’s Cannizzaro. There are seasons in the 380’s and over 400 if you go back a few more years prior to 2014. I think it was Mainieri’s gradual shift and the groups of players in those years. His answer to any offensive problem was to be more aggressive. When you have players who aren’t as good or who aren’t as experienced that approach is only going to compound the problems.

Everytime we were in a slump

He won't get lazy after he has success like Paul and we won't be taking players without the HC actually meeting them

I think thats the last time Vandy and State sniff the CWS cause we gonna bust that arse.

I was initially very skeptical of the hire simply because I knew nothing about him. Now that I've read up on him and after having listened to the press conference, I'm very excited. Sounds like the boost of energy that our program needs. Looking forward to getting back to the Box next year.

I am definitely on board.
Stressed fundamentals and making sure coaches are getting the most from players.
Doesn't seem like the kind of coach will accept losing as "that's baseball."
Wants to see players improve year to year - something I have not seen much over the last few years under PM.
Has great reverence for what LSU is in college baseball and believes he can make players want to stay for a 4th year to improve draft stock.
He has a plan for winning and winning big.

I am not sure why patient and aggressive are mutually exclusive
Josh is right. Skip's player were more patient. Picked pitches they could drive. When they got down in the count they fought off anything close. Basically what JJ wants to do.

Extremely happy. Didn't even have this guy on my radar, but I am very impressed.
Fundamentals
Drive the ball
Play for the moment
Custom approach instead of totally systematic.

LSU is about to be the Alabama football of college baseball.

I think the comparison to the Yankees as a premier organization is better than the comparison to Alabama Football. Besides, LSU baseball is already an elite program. Even Alabama football goes through spells of not winning championships.

I liked what he said but his looks had a slight resemblance to the Mad Hatter. Lol
The only resemblance was the fact they are both Caucasian guys!

Sounded like a Saban type that wasn’t scared of the expectations..
I fought the urge to say this but it's what I had in the back of my mind as I listened to his press conference. He even used a Kevin Elko quote "What's Important Now". Elko has been working with Saban and other NFL coaches for years. So he might be similar in construct but with a little better personality.
I felt solid after the announcement of the hire. I'm feeling even better after listening to the entire press conference. He's got a solid foundation, a strong blue print, he's process oriented and is focusing on the right things. He's totally invested in his players and their complete development with an overarching goal of putting the best product on the field and continuing the LSU brand. He's got a vision and understands what he wants to do to get there. At least in the early going it looks like LSU got this hire right. Time will tell, but I absolutely loved the quote "teams are going to hate to play us".
Geaux Tigers!

I remember in the early 90s fans complained about batters looking at a lot of pitches. Skip’s philosophy was to get to the bullpen. That obviously was a winning strategy.
Yes and I love it.

Lovers.
Pawl recruited everyone under 5’10 that couldn’t run bases and couldn’t bunt. How the freak is that attacking philosophy please explain.

I heard a guy up for the challenge and extremely confident in his abilities…good stuff.
Posted on 6/30/21 at 11:15 am to Byrdybyrd05
It's obvious that he is very cerebral. My impression of him is that he is to baseball what Joe Brady was to his role on the football team (OC/OC technical adviser/whatever). Except he's the main guy this time. I think he will be able to improve our hitting by as big of a jump as Joe Brady was able to improve our offense between 2018 and 2019.

My reaction is that Woody hired The Perfect Coach for LSU.
I can’t wait ‘til next year…. says this Cubs fan.
