After CPM, it is a breath of fresh air. He is fired up unlike Paul, who sometime seemed comatose. Let’s see if he can produce…

He had me at hello. GT!

“Have elite strike zone discipline. Crush mistakes. And be absolute warriors with two strikes. If we do that, we will get to the underbelly of the opponent – the bullpen.” Johnson added, “I want teams to hate to play us. I want them to feel us putting pressure on them and pressing them.”

He is more a model of Skip’s philosophy than PM has been. Paul admitted to everyone he does not have the energy to do what it takes to build a champion. JJ has that in abundance. He has a philosophy and will implement it, that philosophy is gorilla ball for this era. Aggressive always attacking, that was Skip in a nutshell.

I disagree. I bet anything JJ will have players that will look more like Skip than PM. Skip’s team worked pitchers a lot more than PM’s teams. PM could not decide if he wanted to play small ball or power ball. He was always caught between the two but never had the pitching to play small ball or the power to play gorilla ball. Very middle of the road, squish like a grape.

Not sure what this means or how it relates to a patient vs aggressive approach at the plate.

Exactly, they were less aggressive. PMs were more aggressive

Power hitters and more of them in the line up. Also, I am not sure why patient and aggressive are mutually exclusive. You can be both, it’s not either or proposition for hitting. I guess I would describe PM hitters as more passive, they did not battle pitchers.

I like him. Early success is going to depend very heavily on getting the right pitching coach in and assembling a pitching staff. Prolonged success is going to depend very heavily on getting the right recruiting director in and developing the talent that makes it to campus. I think JJ is up to the task - seems like a smart, tireless worker. Buy in will also be key and, by all accounts, he's already started that process.

I remember in the early 90s fans complained about batters looking at a lot of pitches. Skip’s philosophy was to get to the bullpen. That obviously was a winning strategy.
