1989- LSU vs Georgetown in the Superdome. 54,000+ filled the Superdome to watch an LSU basketball game. Probably can't get 5,400 to show up for the next home game.
I was in the Dome in 1990 when LSU smoked Notre Dame in front of 60K-plus.

I don't know that any run was more fun than the '86 team with the freak defense making the Final Four.
This!
The first round games were in the PMAC (just the AC then) which, no doubt, helped the 11 seed (LSU) beat #6 Purdue and #3 Memphis St. Anthony Wilson's buzzer beater seemingly hanging on the rim to upset Memphis may be the best moment in LSU basketball history. The crowd and LSU bench exploded when it went in. Dana Kirk (Memphis HC) was pissed. Such a great shot of Brown running off the court with his hands over his head. That run literally changed the NCAA Tournament forever. Two years later the tournament moved to all neutral site games.
Pulling off an upset in the NCAA Tournament is always great. Doing so in front of your home crowd is incredible...and something that will never happen again.

What was the pinnacle of LSU MBB?
Mid-late 1980s-early 1990s, went to NCAA Tourney 9 straight seasons
If had to reduce it down to small window of time
1980-81 with Rudy, Ethan Martin, Greg Cook, Howard Carter
made Elite 8 both those years, 1981 Final Four, no. 1 seeds both years
we WERE the best SEC team those years and it wasn't particularly close, will give roses to 1979 too we won SEC and lost to Magic's Michigan State team in Sweet 16

early 80s- I have such great memories of the "Deaf Dome" literally so loud you could not hear the person next to you. ...The Tiger mascot being lowered from the catwalk for a Kentucky game...the student section sitting right in the middle of the opposing side breaking out the newspapers when the opposing team was called then balling them up and throwing them when the Tigers lineup was announced....Jordy Hultberg, Rudy Macklin, Hi-C Carter, Shaq, Chris Jackson, ...to go to a game now is such a stark contrast, this next gen just has no idea

1978-81. I know we didn't win a NC, but we made the Final Four in 1981, the Elite Eight in 1980, and were SEC champs three years in a row, and SEC tournament champs in 1980 (the only time I'm aware of).
This - it was as good as it got and whatever definition you have for the pinnacle I think this was it - the best teams and the best fan passion, the best excitement and all of that.
The 86 Final Four team man I loved those guys to but that was good fortune we played the first two rounds at home and that team did not really catch fire with the fan base until that tournament run.
And 2006 was fantastic as well but we only had one regular season sell out at home that year, things didn't catch fire then till the tournament either.

I agree, we had a great tesm with a good mixture of local talent and out of state recruits.
Cookie man, Hi C Carter, Ethan Martin, Rocket Scales, Rudy, and the Black Jet were all very popular players.

I was about 30 ft away and i swear it felt like that ball bounced on the rim for 5 seconds. I also remember Wilson didn't have a great game but my memory might suck bc after the game we were celebrating in the concourse and other team fans were congratulating us...and there was a game after us.

Oliver Brown, the 6'6" center that would nearly hit his head on the rim when he jumped

fond memories of all this. They used to have the "Deaf Dome Meter" that would light up the louder it got. Thing was almost pegged out for those games!

From 1977-78 to 1992-93 LSU was usually top 3 in the SEC standings. The couple years they finished in the bottom half of the standings, they went to the final four and elite eight.

"Two years later the tournament moved to all neutral site games."
Everyone forgets that LSU went on to beat a higher ranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta (not their home court, but their home city) and Kentucky in Atlanta to get to the final four, so that run wasn't just because of the first two rounds being played in BR.

Black Jet: Willie Sims-- he was Jewish, and played for years with the Israeli National Team

'86 run with Anthony Wilson, Nikita Wilson, Ricky Blanton, Jose Vargas, Bernard Woodside, Ollie Brown, etc was a blast.
