Well, her salary is a dead issue. She was paid market value and THAT is not gonna chance. Time to stop complaining about it.

exactly, so if we can get by this we can at least looks at the possible issues..in the end of course the coaches shoulder the biggest part of the performance on and off the court, but hopefully whatever it is, it is NOT that they cannot coach and win here...the jury is out on this IMHO, anything else can be fixed, but if we hired the wrong person, staff, it is gonna be a painful few years. And NO, pretty much no matter what I do not think 3 years is enough time to know the answer to this, she needs at least 4 and maybe 5 years, but to date I am losing faith fast, of course unfair to evealuate on just 6-7 games too.

Poor recruiting by Van, and Nikki is struggling to get players here also. If she doesn't find a quality center, we will really be bad next year. Youngblood lacks talent and compensates by being obese. Mulkey time.

The coach isn't fricking the players anymore, so maybe lack of motivation?

I just laugh at these folks who think we can get a LaTech alum to come here to coach. Mulkey isn't coming here, period. Yall need to let that go. And even if she did, can you imagine the psychological discomfort folks on the Rant will have when we pay her double what Nikki is making?...........and yes, that is exactly what it would take........a salary of around $1.5 million. She's making $1.1 million now. She ain't leaving Baylor to come to LSU for the same exact salary.

Aren't you the person who said Nikki was going to immediately be great, worth every nickel, and she and Bob Starkey would have an SEC championship and a Final Four within their first three years?

I doubt Mulkey will ever be our coach, either, but you have been spectacularly wrong on some of your previous predictions.

I would rather that money be spent on men's basketball. Women's bball doesnt make very much $$$ here but we threw a lot of $$$ at nikki caldwell.

It's business

Nikki is the only thing going for this program. She's the only selling point. I wish LSU did a better job of selling her, as potentially the future face of women's basketball

Nope, that wasn't me. Nikki has never coached with Bob Starkey so, I'd have never made that statement. When the hire was made I definitely think she was well worth the money..................and I still do. She was able to get her MARKET VALUE for a salary. LSU values women's basketball and is willing to pay second tier money ($500k - $1 million) for a good coach. When they lured Nikki from UCLA she was one of the young up and coming coaches and her record at UCLA confirmed that. In fact, her first two seasons at LSU confirmed it as well. Right now she's going through a SIX GAME slide. As horrible as it is, it's not a reflection on her six seasons as a head coach. Now......................if this trend continues into NEXT season, then there'll be reason for concern.

How many people attend the home games? Is there enough interest in ladies b-ball to want a top tier coach?

Can anyone look at that roster and tell me who says she can recruit? What is she building? I am unimpressed to say the least. Some of her success could be attributed to Van's players, the same as was Miles with Saban.

Yes, she was an up and commer, but we did not have to break the bank for her. She was making less tha $200k a year at UCLA, paying her a million is not Market Vale, she would have come for half of that. I don't understand how anyone can say we didn't overpay. If anyone else was offering her over a million a year I might be able to understand, but apparently that wasn't the case. There is a built in base for WBB, they will pay, they deserve better. Sue's legacy deserves better.

Yeah. You did.

Not so fast. Don't think for a second that this necessarily means she won't retain Bob. In fact, I have a feeling that she is.

The Lady Tigers have lost six in a row. The RPI and SOS are still high, and four of those six losses were to tournament teams, but LSU is close to playing itself out of the field.

She has pulled in some pretty highly-rated recruits, but seems like the only players who have contributed consistently all season are Plaisance and kenney.

Not sure what's going on with this team.

Honorary Coonass, reading is fundamental. Please find this quote in the link that you provided...

In no way shape or form, did I say the above statement. I said that I thought she would RETAIN Bob Starkey. However, later on in that thread I came back to say that I had gotten word that she wasn't going to retain him. Where did you get all that stuff about her being worth every nickel, she'd be great immediately, and that they together would win an SEC championship and make a final four? Please find that statement because you're REALLY stretching it if you think my statement in April of 2011 implies all of that.

Do your homework. She was making right around $300K per year.

Caldwell Leaving UCLA for Better Salary and Conference

LSU offered the $700K + incentives contract to her because that's how the negotiation went. She wasn't going to leave UCLA (and who could blame her) unless it was a MUCH better offer. No, we couldn't have gotten her for less than we did because that salary was NEGOTIATED. Don't think they didn't offer her less at the beginning of the negotiation. LSU values women's basketball and wanted to get back to elite status. If you want to do that, you have to pay a good coach to come to your program. Yall need to really stop complaining about the salary. It's not going to change if the university wants to be an elite program. The next coach is going to get a similar salary if Nikki leaves. So, just get over it.
