1979 LSU-USC game Hands down not close.
Agree...but the 1997 Auburn game when the "Diesel" had his coming out party was pretty damn close. I know I was personally more exhausted when the AU game was over than the USC game...but of course I was quite a bit older then too!

The reason the 1979 game was so compelling is due to the fact that they had and NFL team, Chalie White, Marcus Allen, Chip Banks, Hoby Brenner, Ronnie Lott, Anthony Munoz, Keith VanHorn, Doug McKenzie, Joey Browner, Ray Butler, Roy Foster, all of them had tremendous NFL careers and a few are in the hall of fame. We were outmanned at just about every position but yet we led until late in the game and still had a chance to win at the end. The Tigers had "the want" that night to be sure. I'll never forget it as long as I live and I've been to many LSU games all over the south. It didn't hurt that I and three of my buddies drank 3 bottles of Turkey 101 in Tiger Stadium that night, it was awesome.

LSU vs. USC in 1979!!! LSU got screwed by the zebras, but by far the best LSU game I saw when we lost!

USC '79 & it's not even close. Tigahs weren't enem in the same talent galaxy yet somehow came within a questionable face mask call of beating a team full of future NFL stars.

I don't agree with you often, but I do here.
Bama 11-9 might be there too but that game in 06 was just awesome even though we lost.

Ole miss 09. Not considering the horrible ending, that come back was pretty incredible to even get into position to try. The block and return by PP7, the onside kick recovery by Lafell I believe it was

There are quite a few LSU games that are good games even though we lost. I mean, a loss is a loss, I don't mind rewatching highlights.
That 09 Alabama game was really good.

Great article! Thanks for the link. For those of us who were there that night, those comments are gold!

USC 1979 without a doubt!

"There was a guy yelling right in my face and carrying a full fifth of liquor in his hand, " Lott said. "I couldn't believe it. That was a first for me. Not just a glass now -- I'd seen that -- but a full fifth bottle."
quote:
"It's probably the only time in my life I was intimidated by the crowd, " Lott said. "A lot of great players have played in that stadium, but I don't know if any team has walked into that stadium and dealt with what we went through. From the time we landed to the time we left, I don't know if a team has ever gone through that."

In 1979, the rules had been altered to help visiting teams cope with crowd noise. McDonald said he had been coached all summer that should the opposing fans prove too raucous for the signals to be heard, he was to step away from the ball and signal the referee. That situation arose on Southern Cal's first play from scrimmage, where the Trojans stood on their 32-yard line stunned by the wall of sound that enveloped them. McDonald said he had never heard anything remotely that loud on a field. "I was all schooled on this, " he said. "So on the first play of the game for us it was going crazy, going nuts, and I stepped away and looked at the ref. He pointed at the ball and said, 'Go! Run the play!' And I said to myself, 'Oh, boy, this is going to be a tough game.' "
quote:
"Every one of us left that night saying 'that was a game, ' but I still think about it that way, " he said. "I haven't been in an event like that at any level of football. Out of all the games I've ever played in, I've never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment."

USC 1979 without a doubt, unbelievable game and a blast to watch, we weren't as spoiled back then.
I was there, a sophomore at the time. It was the highest of highs, and then the lowest of lows.
I was pissed.

The tenn game with too many players on the field is the only answer...

Your thread is fricking garbage. Any LSU loss is a bad loss. There's nothing good about it. You must be a Tulane fan.

Without question, the best game I ever watched that we lost. Questionable face mask penalty cost us the game.
