Thought this guy was the greatest thing since sliced bread, haven't heard his name in a while

He learned a tough lesson and realized LSU is a bigger name in recruiting than "Austin Thomas".

Funniest thread ever was when people were posting that LSU needed to do whatever was necessary to keep him, including paying him $1 million and naming him the AD.
That’s how important he was.

Funny how a transfer QB and a new offense can quickly make people forget about all else! Austin will be but a speck of dust on the dirt pile of LSU football history.

I would still like to have him around.
We have managed fairly well without him though

He had some artificially inflated title and people on here were losing their mind about his importance. Claiming him to be some prodigy on the staff. He may have likely helped in recruiting a few guys from Tenn (J Phillips or J Stevens, or maybe both?).

Phillips was credited to Austin Thomas for sure. Not sure about Stevens, but he was from Tennessee too.

Jacoby is the one he really locked down, and both of those guys were great. And I admittedly was one of those guys that said “O’s a moron to let him go!”, jokes on me!

I’m confused what he actually did and where the aura surrounding him came from. I remember the news articles and threads on here about him, but I still never understood what he did that was so special

Just looked up his bio from the Aggies
quote:
Austin Thomas is in his second season as the Associate AD for Football Personnel of the Texas A&M football program. Thomas came to Aggieland after spending the last five seasons as a member of the LSU football staff where Thomas was promoted to General Manager in 2016.
The first General Manager in the history of the Southeastern Conference and one of two in the nation, Thomas was responsible for the oversight and management of the entire LSU Football program. One of the top personnel managers in all of college football, Thomas worked closely with NFL personnel to maximize the opportunity for LSU student-athletes at the next level.
In Thomas' first two seasons at LSU, he helped the Tigers claim back-to-back top five signing classes in 2014 and 2015, which included signing the nation's top overall player in 2014. He was named the Personnel Director of the Year in 2015 and a finalist for the award in 2014.
