re: What does O need to do for respect?

I mean, really? So losing to pathetic ND on the one inch line is acceptable. Get ready for 6-6.

If you want Orgeron to have the same amount of respect as Miles he needs to produce similar results in a similar time frame.
Miles went 34-6 with 2 division titles, a conference title and a national title. We can lower the bar, slightly, for Edward and say 30-9 with at least one division and one conference title and he will have earned some respect.

So, "doing the same as Miles" isn't 8 or 9 wins.
People keep saying why did we fire Miles to get just get the same results, inferring that they would have rather just kept Miles, who had become an 8-9 win/year coach with some glaring weaknesses. Personally, I'd rather be where we are now than have had two more years of Miles. At best, Orgeron figures it out and gets us competing for the west in the next year. At worst, he was a stop-gap who got us the same results and recruited decently.

You're right. Paying two coaches salaries instead of one for the same results is absolutely brilliant.
He's filled some holes on the roster and created others. The recruiting is a push and I'm sick of people using mental gymnastics to claim otherwise.

No, I said for Orgeron to earn my respect, he needs to get us in contention to win the west annually. I think comparisons to Miles are pointless, and people making those comparisons are living in the distant past. I believe 2012 was the last time we had a shot to win the west and then TJ Yeldon happened.

so again, you're telling me LSU is forking over millions of dollars to be stuck in the same rut as they were with a coach whom you said has lost his fastball?
So far

So then you're saying O's fastball is only as good as Miles' worst.
If we've already seen O's fastball, then he needs to be shown the door with the quickness.

In what world have you ever seen a replacement NOT be compared to the replaced?
Seriously bro. You're starting to lose it.

You keep saying things like this in multiple threads. Maybe you should wait until Orgeron pulls in a top 10 class as head coach before saying things like this?
You mean like waiting until he has more than 1-1/2 seasons under his tenure here before calling him a failure? Look- if you don't have the courage to just admit you hope he fails, perhaps you're the one who should stop submitting your input. Because the preemptive negativity act is really getting stale.....Are you incapable of being optimistic? A little, maybe? I refuse to view LSU Football as a piñata- I actually look forward to it, every year.

had you told me my options were:
1) Fire Miles, replace him with Ed, and keep basically the same staff intact (even more so now with steve the OC a year later)
2) Retain Miles, keep the same staff basically intact.
I'd probably go with option #2. At least that way we didn't piss away millions of dollars. Then replace him with someone worth a damn in two years

Do some of you honestly still wish Miles was the coach? This thinking baffles me.
Are you incapable of grasping that in comparison to O, yes, some of us would have rather kept Miles. That is how bad O is.

Oh yeah, a historically bad loss to Miss State and the Troy debacle. Woopdee freakin doo!

He's been a head coach for 4 1/2 seasons.

Hoping and expecting are two different things.

And the blind optimism isn't?

As a rational person, I call it as I see it.

You also seem to be the kind of person who is perfectly content with 9 win seasons and no titles. Good for you.
Personally, I like championships.

Yes, to earn respect, Da Coach O has to do a lot of things unrelated to winning, as well:
He needs to show maturity, good judgment and high ethical standards.
I am as troubled by the way O has conducted himself as I am about anything I have seen on the field. At times he has acted like a petulant child. An LSU head coach smashing red bull cans on his forehead seems to be well beneath the dignity of the position.

“ you should already respect”
This is just me, but I find nothing to respect in losing to a SBC team, suffering the worst defeat in series history with Mississippi State, and wimped out at the 1 foot line against Notre Dame.
“Go toe to toes with Alabama”
You want to point out to us the SEC Coach since 07 who was able to better the LSU wins vs Bama? What’s the record for LSU vs Bama since 2016?
“ do you honestly still wish miles was the coA hot”
As opposed to Coach O? Let’s see....one has a NC, West titles, SEC titles, 2 NCGs appearances, and won more games overall than any other SEC program. The other, loss to a SBC team. I’ll go with the guy who proved he can win the big games over a guy who has proven nothing, to this point, every time.

the point being, the move to fire Miles for someone with Ed's credentials was insanely stupid.

I'm a pretty rational guy, myself. At least that's what people who really know me tell me.
One of the things I try to do is keep what's supposed to be fun....fun. This is how I view LSU Football- and always will.
I've lived through the very best of it- and the very worst. I think I'm qualified to know the difference between the two- and do not believe we are even CLOSE to the latter. I do realize some here have never known failure concerning LSU Football- and that's a wonderful thing. Hope it continues for many years to come.
One thing is for sure- none of us are in control of what happens. May as well enjoy the journey.

He doesn't appear to be a lesser coach than Miles was his last few years. Right now, I'd say they're dead even. we're getting similar results, aren't we?
Do some of you have to be reminded how to breathe?

Miles didn't get fired for 10 win seasons. Don't be obtuse.
What did he get fired for? And whatever your answer is, Has Ed improved on that?
The results def arent better. The offense couldnt run the ball, and the defense got pushed around by teams like Troy. To start the season, this was the most undisciplined team in the country. The amount of penalties became laughable.
