I think people just look for stuff to bitch about. Blair does a fine job and his excitement for LSU is growing after every call.

He is much more detailed and descriptive in his calls than Hawthorne. He’s very professional. Ferguson didn’t have that much of a hyper excitable delivery.

Living in Florida I’ve heard enough of Florida’s PBP guy, Mick Huber, and he is hard to listen too because every play sounds like a great play. Hawthorne Was not as bad as a Huber but sometimes his excitement didn’t match the play.

I watched a replay of megacast with Blair and thought it was fine.

I think he is great for Baseball but I dont like him for football at all. I used to look forward to sound bites of Hawthorne on big plays. I dont even bother searching for Blair's because in my opinion they are just NOT good.

Hard to pinpoint it. There is just something missing for me. If he called all his games like he did the Alabama game - I would be a regular listener. But besides that game, he always sounds like he is auditioning. Maybe next year will be better since he went thru this past championship year.

He seemed hit or miss.

Like the 2nd big pass to Chase. From his call, you have no idea what a great throw it was or that it was even a long pass downfield.

On the QB draw, though, pretty good call.

Some people don't have that exciteable voice. In his head, he probably feels like he's going crazy.

ETA: He's good, but probably much better suited to network games, not be the home call for a rabid college fanbase.

He seems too focused on saying 5-4-3-2-1 instead of positioning of the play, who all is involved.....

And there’s definite lag of what is happening vs the call

It’s not fair to link him with a video broadcast. He’s doing radio for radio listeners. He has to explain it in that way.

That’s fine but Jim isn’t coming back

I like Chris, I enjoy his calls for basketball & baseball
I haven’t listened to much football

He’s not Jim but that doesn’t mean he’s not good

The dude has been here for like 4 years. I think he is what he is at this point.

If I'm listening to the game, I can hear the crowd react and I know something is going on, but it's usually a few seconds later when he finally gets around to explaining it. That drives me insane.

Good voice, ok at PBP.

I’ve listened to better.

I watched the championship calls and it sounded like he was calling an FCS game in September. Really bizarre

Over my objection, I was forced to listen to the LSU radio broadcast for the LSU/Oklahoma game. The broadcast provided no ambiance consistent with the excitement of the action on the field. I was also out of the country for the Texas game and had to listen to the second half exclusively through the radio broadcast (the TV broadcast streaming was too unreliable). I heard the 3rd and 17 play, but didn't really appreciate the gravity of it until I watched the TV highlights the next day. And Doug Moreau adds literally nothing of substance to the broadcast.

Blair is better than Hawthorne in that you know what is going on instead of just moments of unreliable yelling. But you do lose that natural excitement Hawthorne brought to the broadcast. In a day where the radio broadcast is largely irrelevant due to the fact it's never been easier to watch every game on TV, the only benefit the hometown broadcast provides is the hometown excitement. Blair doesn't have it for football.

However, he is MUCH better than Hawthorne on the basketball call

He's alright. He doesn't bring near the emotion that Hawthorne did. But he's ok I guess. I don't get excited to listen to him the way I did with Hawthorne. Plus he's not an "LSU guy". Bottom line - no one will ever replace Jim Hawthorne.

This is exactly my thought. He doesn't seem passonate. His "Touchdown Tigers!" calls seem more like a catchphrase than true excitement.

I get Jim regressed a bit towards the end, but I 100% would have listened to the simulcast of Jim with the Championship Game. Instead, listened to Kirk. That should say something.

Like the point gets across but I just feel like there could be so many more details relayed to really engross listeners, especially football. It’s hard to explain but I’ve thought it for awhile now.

I feel like Kevin Harlan is the only guy that really does this.

One week.

We just completed the best season in our history, and likely the best (at worst, top 4) seasons in CFB history.

It took one week for the tards on this board to find something to whine about.

He is a professional. He sounds, acts, prepares like a professional. No he's not a homer, and that's ok. I want a sold person, not a homer who can't get the call right.

I mean, do you want Gus Johnson, who makes a 2 yard dive seem like a game 7 walkoff homer?

As far as the call lagging behind video... yeah that's an issue for the tv guys as well. It takes longer to get words from brain to mouth to speaker, than it does to see video.

The entire argument against Blair can be distilled down to 'he's too professional'

Hawthorne had a weird nasally voice and fricked up calls constantly. To hell with nostalgia
