What do you think Nuss has to do to take the next step?

Is it being the first guy in the film room and more mental reps of coverage? Or building a better relationship with his receivers and doing a lot of their own throwing sessions?
Something else?

Step up into the pocket more and take off running when you see the linebackers part to the sidelines.
It would also help if he had more studs at WR

Quit throwing off his back foot every time he gets scared. Maybe throw to the other team a little less.

No one on here knows how early he is in the film room or what kind of relationship he has with his receivers or how much he is throwing with them.

Take scramble gains when there
Ball security when taking a sack
Doesn't have to be superman every throw, sometimes throw it away... and hopefully our punter is better next year

Ask nabors and Thomas to come back for their sr yr so he can win the heisman too

Part of it is on Nuss and part of it is on Sloan.

Sloan needs to figure out how to create a running game plus how to call plays in the red zone. Those two things will help Nuss tremendously.

Nuss needs to understand that sometimes just throwing the ball away or checking down can be a 'big play.' Right now, he thinks every pass has to be a big play, meaning a first down or a TD.

Avoiding a turnover by living to play another down can be a big play in a tight game. A good example is the A&M game. His two INTs in that game were HUGE factors in the outcome of that game. Had he just thrown the ball away, at least the Aggies would have had to drive down the field instead of getting a short field.

Also, because LSU had a pathetic running attack this season, Nuss probably felt like the entire offense rested on his right arm. To some extent, that was true, but that meant he needed to make better decisions to keep a suspect defense out of short field situations.

We shall see. He has some extra bowl practices plus another spring and summer to figure it out. Burrow and JD were able to make that leap. I hope he can too.

Yes. Jamarcus Russell actually managed to step up and do this going into his last year with us.

Hard to answer because we aren't in the room. I have seen players make incredible strides. Some of it is circumstantial. Right place at the right time, with the right guys. But the biggest factor is the attitude. A guy that is driven to excel can find the support he needs to excel. He needs to get up early and stay late to focus on getting better. That approach will reap results.

From a fan perspective, with no inside knowledge of what is going on inside the room, he would do well studying tape to improve reading defenses and pre-snap adjustments. Reps with key receivers is always a good thing. Hope we get our receiving room in place quickly, and they spend time together this off-season.

Find Jefferson, Chase, Marshall III OR Nabers and Thomas Jr. I mean, you’re comparing 4 of the top 15 receivers in the NFL to his best in CJ Daniels. When Daniels went out his production dropped. He was the only one to get any separation on intermediate routes but isn’t explosive like the aforementioned.
Get his Oline to be able to screen and him throw the screen. This is a Nuss and Oline issue. It is clear Kelly wants to screen with Durham.

He needs to work hard with those receivers this spring and offseason.

Lose a little bit of weight. Prioritize running more. Take what the defense gives him. Be more accurate with the deep ball.

Also needs Sloan to dial up some better designed plays to get playmakers the ball in space as opposed to relying so much on traditional downfield route concepts.

Most of the issues with this dude are mental issues. He has to get into the film room and truly learn that if he wants to be an nfl qb he has to be smarter. Pre snap reads. Consistently defenses blitzed him because they understand he struggles under pressure, be he also cannot for the life of him make a pre snap reads, understand where the pressure is coming from, know where his hot route is, and get the ball out. He always wants to push the ball down the field. He became easy to defend as the year went on. He holds onto the ball way too long, takes bad sacks because of it. Numerous times this year he had underneath routes wide open and he just didn’t make the throw because he wants to make 20-30 yard throws. Also, he is just bad in the pocket, he freaks out when there’s any type of pressure up in the middle, throws off his back foot, throws into double coverage repeatedly. When that happens he then starts running out of clean pockets and getting sacked or worse. If he learns how to read defenses and know where the mismatch is pre snap, take what the defense gives him, then push the ball down field when the secondary presses he may have become a very good qb. This entire idea of “well, he needs a good run game, elite level WRs, and a clean pocket and he’ll be good.” So would everyone else. He improved in the last two games so hopefully that’s more of what’s to come. If he doesn’t improve he will be a career backup at best.
