Nothing, and this isn’t going to court. This lawsuit will be settled soon once both parties find a number
That window has closed. Kelly and Sexton are getting every penny as they should. I’ve heard so many experts and lawyers on sports radio talk about this and they say there is a 0% chance he gets anything less than what he’s owed.
Say what you will about the guy as a coach, but I don’t blame him

Build a substandard team.

LSU could make the argument that adultery qualifies as moral turpitude, which is listed as a for cause reason for termination in his contract.
Do you have any legal precedent for this in LA? I have never seen adultery used to void a personal performance contract's moral turpitude clause.

What about his affair with the secretary that abruptly left??? He brought her with him from ND.

This is shaky territory. What if he and his wife have an open relationship? Further...does LSU really want to create a precedent that having an affair is grounds for termination?

Doesnt LSU have to give some notice if they’re firing for cause?

First of all you cant have knowledge of a transgression and rathole it for later use. If LSU had knowledge of something nefarious they are obligated to deal with it at the time. If he was given didcipline for such action you can include it in your list of grievances.
The most credible story out there because the issue is directly stated in his contract was if he refused to deal with his assistants as directed by the AD or President, i.e. fire Joe Sloan. However I would think Woodward had the power to fire Sloan himself.

I don't understand how CFB coaching contracts do not have this as a cause. At the very least, show up to practice. Maybe a win total (no coach would go for that).
Even video games tell you how many wins you have to get.

If so, that would wipe out Tangipahoa Parish.

If LSU offers 30 mill, pay him the full 50. Dragging this out and the poor pr will cost us more than that additional 20

This is all about leveraging.

The lawyers know if they have a case. Do you believe the LSU attorneys are stupid? If they didn't have anything to bring this into question, then this wouldn't be a topic.

Only reasonable thing rumored to be worthy of firing "with cause" would be from his contract:
Termination by LSU for Cause:
"Unreasonable refusal or repeated failure to perform any duties imposed herein"
Duties and Responsibilites:
"Performing all duties and reasonably assigned to Employee by AD"
In other words, AD told him to fire Sloan. He refused. Therefore he can be fired with Cause.
If you boss tells you to fire an employee and you refuse, you can be fired.

Ok, now go to court.
"LSU - did you provide written notice of your intent to terminate for cause?"
"Uhhhhh"
"And did you give Kelly seven days to cure the issue?"
"Uhhhhh"
--OR--
The contract refers to unreasonable refusal to perform the duties imposed herein...in other words...the duties of Head Coach. Not following an order from the AD is not as clearly outlined in black and white as you are suggesting.

Any possibility the court rules below?… I don’t know, just asking…
LSU had the contractual right, and still has the contractual right, to terminate Kelly for cause if it chooses to do so.

And they didn't discover that moral turpitude until the 4th quarter of the A&M game.
