SidewalkTiger has softened my view on Sloan previously where I was ready to scapegoat him for the offensive struggles.

But man, it felt like we were pulling teeth watching the offense in some of these games. The 2nd and 10 runs to get no yards or 1 yard each time drove me insane.

I go back and look at the PBP in some of these games because Sometimes perception isn’t reality.

But the A&M game we definitly did the pass run pas 5 times in the second half.

honestly I dont think Sloan is an innovator or great playcaller, but I also think we had a lot of other issues too and our offense really wasn’t that bad till Dellinger went down .

Sloan gets demoted to QB Coach and Tommy Rees will be hired as OC. After Kelly stepped in with play calling there is no way that Sloan stays at OC.

I think he needs to be seriously evaluated at the end of the season, but I've definitely changed my purview that its all on Sloan.

Nuss has had plenty of opportunities to keep it and run to move the chains and refuses, and he's turned the ball over a lot.

Our offensive line was a sieve in run blocking, and when Dellinger went down, pass protection definitely suffered as a result.

I also expect a coordinator to find ways to be creative, and I felt like we just kept trying the same stuff hoping it would work.

I hated the deep shots that were called because they just never worked until the Oklahoma game. Some of that is on Nuss as well, but we were always behind the downs.

I think Sloan will be back, and I won't raise hell if he does, but I'd definitely be fine with cutting bait and looking elsewhere.

"Sloan got his first coaching job at South Florida where he was hired as an offensive quality control coach before in 2012 he became a graduate assistant for South Florida for one season.[2] In 2013, Sloan was hired by Louisiana Tech to coach the team's receivers.[3] In 2014, Sloan would be promoted to also be the team's recruiting coordinator.[4] In 2015, Louisiana Tech promoted Sloan to be their assistant head coach.[5] In 2020, Sloan was promoted by Louisiana Tech to be the team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.[6][7] After two seasons as the Bulldogs offensive coordinator, Sloan was hired by LSU to coach the team's quarterbacks.[8][9] On January 23, 2024, Sloan was promoted to be LSU's offensive coordinator."[10][11

30 million in three years.
One more season and he will be approaching JR as the most overpaid Tiger.

Sloan should be relived of OC , Need a new strength and condition coach

I wouldn't have a problem with Sloan but I will say the playcalling improved towards the end of the season...screen passes, few more slants, more straightforward short yardage runs instead of being "cute" like he did on 4th and 1 in the Florida game with an end around using Z Thomas. I don't know who the S&C coach is but I don't see LSU pushed around at all on DL. And the OL is strange...pass protection seems pretty good but can't open any holes. Is that lack of strength or simply lack of football talent?

Also, factoring in …. Sloan is an inexperienced coach. This was his first year as an OC calling plays.

Neither one of those are true

If it fails, it's "too cute"

If it works, he's "creative and innovative"

That's the difference

It's true that we had the tendency to run on 2 and long however many of those play were RPO's where Nuss either made a bad read or we actually did have a run look.

I made a point to watch for runs on 2 and long this past weekend in the conference championships, pretty much everyone was running on 2 and long.

Ok

Also, Baker was available for DC when he took over. Raymond as well. But he couldn't be bothered to retain guys for continuity.

100%, that was a mess.

I think he came in with the mindset that it was a complete rebuild and just dumped everybody when that defensive staff was actually pretty solod.

I too hope one of the best offensive line coaches in America is replaced. That will surely solve our problems

The offensive line went from a strength to average at best. Was it the scheme? Joe Sloan did Davis no favors? I don’t know, but this line wasn’t good as a unit especially inside.

Nope, that is absolutely wrong for THAT game. If you watched the game, even early on, LSU had the better of the LOS. That is why LSU had twice the first downs, twice the time of possession, more rushing yards, more passing yards, etc. You run the ball straight up the middle. BTW, Hester and Dickson on their show said exactly the same thing. Sooooo nnnnoooo, Sloan was being too CUTE on the play. More proof is on the next 2 or 3 tries on 3rd and short and 4th and short, they made it with a vanilla run. You are simply making EXCUSES for bad playcalling by Sloan.

So the best offensive line coach in America has no clue how to teach his men how to run block?

These threads are always a waste of time, absolutely no one here in anything near qualified enough to judge assistant coaching performance. And even if they were, we don't have all of the information needed to make that determination.

In case you haven’t noticed, this place is a haven for the ‘what if’ guys and the pure speculation of topics where the poster literally has zero information or credentials to back up their theory.

Sloan isn't as bad as you all think. Nuss's numbers didn't decline at all throughout the season. My main concern is that he lacks creativity. You have Z. Thomas, C. Hilton, and A. Anderson, yet you couldn't find a way to match them up against the linebackers.

We need a defensive coach who knows how to stop the QB run option, we still can’t stop it.

Tommy Rees as OC was bad at Alabama , don’t know why his name keeps coming up.
