I agree, especially the outside passes(swing passes to rb's, wheel routes to rb's, delay routes to te's in flats, slip screens, bubble screens) even if they don't net a lot of yards, it spreads them out and you get better numbers for running.

More RPOs
Some bubble screens
Short RB swing passes.
Running a screen not on 3rd and long after a few sacks

First off, I'd love to see the line actually put up a fight.
Secondly, a lot of what kingnola said, plus usage of the TE's in the passing game. Get them spread out and then try to hit some runs. I like counters and traps against their aggressive DL but the blocking hasn't been good enough to execute those either.

quote:Quick/short passes from the Spread. And RPO's from the Spread.
RPOs are Bama's kryptonite, at least that's what Buckeye says.
Their linemen will be reduced to spectators and they'll be helpless to stop us. That'll be a sight to see if that comes to fruition.
This Spread/RPO combo turns the Line of Scrimmage/ Linebacker/CB area into a Speed & Agility contest (winnable against Bama)... as opposed to a size, strength, & aggression contest (rarely winnable against Bama)
And if the Safety's cheat up too much, then over-the-top becomes a short to medium length toss - much higher percentage throw.

Block better. Throw all over the field. Actually catch it.

Why can’t we ever go horizontal to make them chase us like everybody else?

I would change this part of the game plan.

Want to know something shocking? We DID throw it down field!
Want to know something else? It didn't work. Any more ideas coach?

We did not.
We ran play action
Still dropping back. Not zone blocking and reading.
If we’re washing out DL and LBs they’re not going to be in passing lanes

First and most obvious correction needs to be better play up front. Nothing will work unless we can somewhat block them to give Joe time and give the RB’s a few creases. The common trend against them that seems to be most successful is stretching their defense horizontally and vertically by putting their DB’s in space. Their secondary has long been the weak link of their defense. Running tempo and not letting them sub is also effective but we have to be able to move the ball in order to run tempo. I like our WR’s and backs against their secondary in space if Joe has time.

What changes would you make to the offensive game plan against Alabama?

Once again, without better Oline play it won’t matter

I would go with Spider 2 Y banana

Throw the ball deep yes. Add more screens and get our TEs in favorable match ups especially if Pettigrew proves to be a valuable option during the season. We saw Moreau have some success in 2017.

When you play a Bama or Clemson type defense, with little or no weak spots, I believe you have to fool them well downfield to actually make big plays. I would install 5 or 6 pass plays that involve downfield reverse direction laterals. The idea would be to get the ball well past the LOS and then get another trick into open field.
Maybe it is because I played rugby in college

Wishbone!
Seriously, watch Clemson film and Ole Miss film when they beat up on Bama's defense for 2-3 years in a row.
RPO, 4-5 WR sets, also run out of 4 WR sets, wheel routes, but to start the game chunk it 65 yards downfield a couple times early to set the tone that we are not conservative. That will tighten up the defense as they will not know what to expect
