A lot higher than it was at the beginning of the season but I am not sure of his family situation. Some people just leave no matter what to get to the NFL as quickly as possible.

If he is smart, he will return. He needs to show more to go high in the draft.
Seems this has been said about a number of players over the years but they still head to the NFL for. Late round pick

He has done nothing so far, so yeah, he should declare.

If he's a sure thing to be drafted, then he will go. If he's a middle round pick he gets to his second contract faster.
He just will need to produce.

He's not the type.....
I do think he would benefit tremendously from it, but I don't think he's built that way. All players have different motivating factors in their life and I think he can def benefit and help his fam if he goes pro.... Hope he can finally do something with his "potential" though...always a word thrown around a player, tough to live up to that if you just aren't built that way or have injuries that hold you back,

Exactly. Smith reminds me of
so many LSU d lineman who tried to cash out way too early based on hype. Remember Freak?

He will return. His draft stock isn’t here it needs to be yet but next year he could perform into a first round talent

Depends how he finishes the season . He’s played back into shape week after week but still is far away from a top 3 round draft pick

Because at this point, he has no chance to play in the NFL.

An NFL team would gladly pick him up in the 4th, and is a no-brainer in the 5th. He might even be a 3rd rd pick, to be fair.
Linemen are funny- every year I see the Saints looking at signing a guy who's undrafted, but was All Big 10 or Pac 12, or something like that; and then you see guys drafted from the same conferences that weren't even regular starters.
You're looking at 300 lb men, and judging from their frame and natural athleticism, moreso than the techniques they have currently mastered. And Maason Smith remains a high-ceiling type of guy. He might not project to be your starter, but he'll make someone's roster.

I have watched him and focused on his play. He is nowhere near AL woods play when he was at LSU. His feet are slow, He has poor hand play. Has difficult getting off blocks. Plays with pad level way too high. He will get abused at the NFL level. He needs to stay and develop. Now given his injury hx he might very well go. But the question was could he stay? I say he could and it would benefit him to get another year to develop because he needs it.

If he is drafted, it will be on potential alone. He doesn't have much tape, at least playing healthy. He needs to come back for another season and play his way into the top 10.

What are the chances Maason Smith comes back next year?
Likely at this point. Needs another year to re-develop his strength.
Hopefully they can draw Wingo back too.

Depends on his NIL account at LSU
He isn't going to 'get paid' for at least 3 more years at best. He is not a dominant DLineman....so far.
Until he proves that at LSU, he will have to prove it in the undrafted or late draft category. That is a hard way to go. I hope he stays, gets totally healthy and dominates like we all thought he would.

He’s a first round pick regardless of his production

Considering his injury history, returning would be the exact opposite of intelligence assuming he is a projected top 4 round pick.
If his dream is NFL, coming back to college for another year and risking a third major injury doesn't seem conducive to realizing that dream.
I think all the downvotes are because folks don't want to hear this. It used to be more true. Now, LSU can pay the guy 400K to stay, and that, plus the chance of improving his draft position, might make the injury risk worth taking.
A lot depends on how he finishes the season. If he kicks Bama's arse, and then shines against the Aggies and Georgia, his stock will skyrocket.

Well, maybe not. He was hyped up this whole offseason & seemed like an automatic 1st rounder.
I guess the concerns & doubts are legit.
He is no longer listed in Kiper’s top 10 prospects at DT.
