Didn't Bradie James screw up one of these on a coin flip once and LSU ended up kicking twice?

In the early days of the AFL, the championship game went into overtime. one of the captains chose to KICK.

It was a very windy day, SO his team got to kick off into the wind and proceeded to lose the game before they got their hands on the ball.

dumbest thing I ever saw.

Well not really -

In those days I saw a kickoff into the end zone, and the returner came out to about the five yard line and was bottled up.

He went back into the end zone and took a knee.

The expression on the umps face was priceless as he signalled safety.

You can also choose which endzone to defend, when you defer the option. This is especially important a Tiger Stadium, and it's why we always defer at home.

This doesn't make sense since the endzone you want to defend would theoretically be most important in the 4th quarter, which you won't be able to control if you defer.

everyone seems to defer if they win the coin toss ? is there any real benefit ?

There isn't really any benefit to either deferring or not deferring. Both teams still get to receive the ball for one half and kick it for the other.

After, the opposing team deferred, then Bradie said that we wanted defense. The opposing team then took the ball in the 2nd half as well.

I thought LSU won the toss but Bradie said kick instead of defer (like the choices on NCAA)

That is why we should take the kickoff and shove it down someones throat, then kickoff and use our great Def. to stuff them and garner good field position for our first second half series. But what do I know. Heck, it is working for us. Against weaker teams, lets take the first kickoff aqnd run run run to start wearing out the def.

I don't know about Bradie James screwing this up (maybe I was too drunk to notice), but I know FOR A FACT that we screwed this up against Fla State in the late 90's. Fla State was #1 and it was raining and we were actually winning at the half, only to have to kick to them AGAIN to start the 2nd half. Obviously we ended up losing, and I blame the coin flip decision.
