WINNERS IN ALL THIS MESS =

lobbyists for fannie and freddie. They walk away with millions in cash, while the taxpayers and common and preferred stockholders suffer.

everyone seems to defer if they win the coin toss ? is there any real benefit ?

There isn't really any benefit to either deferring or not deferring. Both teams still get to receive the ball for one half and kick it for the other.
Big deal. LSU didn't play a game that weekend. You're most certainly subject to being jumped in your off weeks because other teams have an opportunity to prove themselves better than what was previously thought, but you don't.

We jumped Georgia in a week they didn't play, when we played the SECCG.

FNM's/FRE's Assets to Be Unwound at 10%/Yr from 2010 On
Biggest suprise was suspending the dividend on preferred. Those are going to be worth near nothing now, and a ton of medium and small sized banks are going to take huge hits to their asset base because of it. Just shifting money from a treasury bailout to an fdic bailout when some of them ultimately fail.

When the preferred dividends start getting paid again, will all of the unpaid back-dividends start being paid as well?

What happens to the common stock here? Zero? A few cents?

After reading a bit, what I'm getting is that the stock will be worth next to nothing, definitely no more than a buck or two and maybe much less - but that there is a slim chance some other corporation may offer to buy the entire company (fannie or freddie or both) which might push the stock a little higher than that.

Am I getting it about right?

fannie and freddie stock now only bestow the rights of 1) future governing of the company when the government decides its OK, if ever and 2) future profits after all losses are recouped, if ever.

So its basically not even a share of stock really - its the right to own shares of Fannie or Freddie in the future, should they become available.

I mean... Hurricane makes landfall Tuesday night, if you start housing people Saturday and funding efforts that soon, it just doesnt make financial sense...

Tuesday night is just the most likely landfall time. The 2/3 "cone of uncertainty" touches land as early as Monday afternoon. And that's just a 2/3 cone - there's 1/6 chance it will hit before then.

I hate to see the game cancelled as much as anyone but there are more important things than football. Not many, like, less than I can count on one hand, not using my thumb, but there are.

We'll know a lot more Friday. The models have the storm going as far west as south texas and as far east as biloxi. One of the models has a direct hit on New Orleans.

NOLA didnt evac for RITA and did just fine.

There wasn't really anyone to evacuate for Rita.
Its probably just an introductory rate. Watch em knock that rate down to 2.5% in three months.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm just going to pay off the student loans 1st then go on my way debt free. I paid off over 8k in credit cards over the last 5 months!

I made some dumb moves in college, obviously, but it feels good to be making the right moves now. Making that last CC payment sure felt nice.

Excellent. Now tear up all your cards and throw them away, but keep the accounts open.

. At interest rates of around 6% would I be better off putting the extra I plan to put towards them into some sort of mutual fund where I can average at least 10% yearly interest

If you can find a mutual fund where you can average at least 10% yearly interest let me know. Most mutual funds I know of have a minimum interest per year of -100% and a maximum of infinity.

My grandfather missed only one home game between the end of WW II and his death in 1993. It was when my Aunt was born.

So OSU has lost 3 games in 2 years; as said earlier, there are at least 100 other programs who would want that, although it's probably more like 115

Except that all 12 SEC schools would rather lose 6 a year in the SEC than 3 every 2 years in the Big Slow Crappy 10.

well they are the #1 team.

And they hopefully will still be the #1 team when we beat them. Considering we lost twice last year as #1, its time to start paying some of that pain back.

Sorry UGA, but if you're going to make it to the NC, its going to be with 1 loss to LSU. Or maybe you can make it with 2 losses, provided, you know, you WIN YOUR DIVISION.

If someone has been vaccinated for Hep B, and their plasma is pumping into someone who hasn't, does that unvaccinated person become vaccinated?

just a guess. Maybe its just for people with extremely compromised immune systems who can't take the chance that the blood has hep B.
Thanks for the advice all, I'd never thought of giving plasma. I think I found a place in BR that pays $20 the first time in a week and $30 the second - $50 a week is $2600 a year. That's close enough.

Has anyone here actually given plasma before? Is it as painless as giving blood? How long does it take?

I could also probably get $15 an hour as a tutor, would it a be a better use of my time to do that?
... in your spare time, how would you do it?

Is showing on ESPNU right now - 2007 Pitt v. West Virginia. What a day that was for the Tigers.

That day was the most exciting day I've ever had watching football on TV. My brother couldn't handle the excitement. He went to sleep before half time of the Pitt WVU game. My wife and some friends and I watched the whole show, from the Les Miles "have a great day" press conference, through all three of the relevant games, and through hours of commentary on TV speculating who the pick would be. It was a trip!

The 2007 LSU Tiger Championship football season was full of flaws. But no one could have possibly asked for a more exciting season. From the heights of victory over Va Tech to the nailbiters of Auburn, Florida, and Alabama, to the disappointment of Arkansas, to the SECCG and the CG - it was crazy and I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a more exciting college football season for any team at any place in the world at any time that the 2007 Tigers.
