Would it be better to say pitch Hurd and go loser's bracket after 1st game?
Why aren’t you confident that Hurd of Floyd could beat Tulane? 19-40 Tulane whose ace pitcher has an ERA of over 5.30 and had just pitched 11 innings (3 on Sunday) over the past weekend. With a Tulane bullpen that doesn’t have any scary arms.
The goal of the regional is not to win 1 game. It’s to win 3 (or 4) games before you lose 2 games.

The top 8 seeds went 8-0 yesterday
7 of those teams saved their ace and have them pitching today in game 2
Guess the one national seed that doesn’t have their ace available anymore….

The one that played game one against a team with the second worst win percentage in the history of the NCAA baseball tournament?

A lot of posters would have to believe the teams that went 7-0 yesterday who didn’t pitch their ace were the idiots. It’s strange

Win this regional, of course???
Not a given.

And the idiot OP thinks it's "The Rant's way" of winning.

Floyd can beat any team in the country. Those other 7 teams don't have that in a #2 guy!

But why lol
“They didn’t do it my way, god damnit!!!”
“My opinion rules all!!!!!”
It's called strategery - you save the biggest gun to use against the biggest attacker. You seem simple minded in not comprehended that LSU's easiest opponent was going to be their first opponent.

Imagine complaining after winning a regional because they didn’t do it the way you wanted lol
Imagine throwing the best pitcher in the world against the worst team in the tournament. JJ playing mind games for reasons we’ll never understand

Yea I can’t defend it and I’ve been a big Jay supporter. I just think it’s an unnecessary gamble.
My way of coping is that I’m reminding myself that the truth is if the only dude we can count is Skenes then we ain’t getting to Omaha anyway so it doesn’t matter. The other kids are gonna have to perform at the standard for which they were brought in to perform or we are fricked whether it’s this weekend or next.

What makes it unnecessary?
Is there some sort of guaranteed plan that you know of?

There simply aren't enough solid arms to make winning a regional bracket possible when slugmeisters like OSU are in the bracket
I am concerned about Oregon St because they are hitting well lately and LSU is not, but you really are overstating the case here. Oregon St had a .416 slugging % in conference play, which would have been dead last in the SEC. They scored 193 runs in conference play, which would have been 9th in the SEC. If they stay hot and LSU stays cold, LSU may be in trouble, but overall they are not an offensive juggernaut.

Of course there’s no guarantee but I have confidence that Hurd could have pitched well enough for us to beat Tulane.
I’ve supported Jay every step until this decision. Conventional wisdom and the preponderance of evidence relative to what every other national seed did yesterday tells you that the smart play is to throw your ace in the marble game.
There’s just no way to spin it that it makes a ton of sense. It seems like Jay is overthinking this. I don’t know if he has little man syndrome or what but it’s an unfortunate time to try and be the smartest guy in the room.

But everyone keeps saying this shows a lack of confidence in your pitching staff.
Having your full pen and #2 starter ready for game 2, shows a lack of confidence in them?

Not sure winning the regional is a given.
Need to score at least 8-10 today to win. Can they do that?
