It’s a “with cause” culture

It's not about the quote, it's about his professionalism. I don't give a frick that he said it, but now is not the time to be making cute little cajun jokes. The program YOU run is in trouble, you are the face of it and this is how your going to conduct yourself. This has always been a business where you can be a personality when your winning....when your not you better be all business.

I agree.

Its funny how no one here trusts the media unless they are talking about Orgeron.

He needs to be fired, not cancelled.

It’s not cancel culture if he’s being judged on tangible results.

Thats why he sucks, the program is becoming a laughing stock nationally and if they lose 5 games this year that is a terrible coaching job considering the talent on the team.

What’s horrible is grown men like Moscona are trying to make this seem like a real life threat.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I (almost) completely agree with the OP.

If LSU were 5-0 right now and seen as legitimate contender nationally 90% of the bozos on here would think all of his behavior/comments were "awesome". Don't believe me? Here's the TD post about the time he said the EXACT SAME THING in 2018

LINK

Note, no one reacted with any outrage. And the two posters who said it was ridiculous got significantly downvoted. Why was it not a big deal then? Because LSU blew out Miami. Had LSU beaten UCLA we'd have 10 posts talking about how "awesome" his statement was. People would also be defending him to the hilt re: the Title IX stuff.

I'm not saying this will happen. In fact, I'm almost certain it won't. But if LSU were to somehow find away to turn the season around and finish 10-2, many of the same people who are losing their minds now over every little transgression wanting to "cancel" O would be the same ones lauding him for such a remarkable turnaround.

It is ALL about results. I couldn't give any less of a shite if he's hooking up with every gold digging blonde in the state or threatening some bozos at a fishing camp. Just deliver on Saturdays

Being fired for continuing to lose and also looking like an idiot is not the same as cancel culture.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a Coach O sycophant. I did not like his hiring. I think there were better qualified coaches. I also think he reinforces an unfair Southern stereotype.

But, it seems like the fans are out hunting for some reason to "cancel" Coach O. Someone here digs out an old "fishing hole" quote. This is exactly what the "cancel culture" lefties do.

Is anyone really surprised that Coach O has said some unwise things over his lifetime? It wasn't as if anyone thought he was some sophisticated and savvy media manager.

Judge him on how the team performs. Quit the "cancel culture" nonsense.

Recent events, I note (e.g. the UCLA student statement) are outside the cancel culture gamut as they relate to professionalism and maturity.

What a load of stupid shite.

I think this, too, is stupid. Anybody who's butthurt over his fishing hole quip is a baby. I've heard that saying all my life (or "let's go hunting"). It's not a death threat, but this is where we are in the United States.

I think you are half right. It's correct he is being cancelled (partially) for his private indiscretions. Where you are wrong is minimizing the importance of representing the LSU brand in an honorable and respectable way. You cant bang students and threaten fans with violence and keep this gig. Coach O was being protected while he won, now that he is taking the sun will shine on his misdeeds. Thems da rules.

Equaling this to cancel culture from libtard left wingers is laughable. Nice try. You have no idea what you're talking about.

This isn't "cancel culture." Cancel culture is taking an oppressive stance against someone's opinion, which are we supposed to be free to have and speak. And using that opinion to shut down their speech, get them fired, etc.

O's comments aren't opinion, these comments are a display of his personality - overly aggressive, southern stereotype, bawdy, foul mouthed, etc. - and people don't want a person with that kind of personality heading up LSU.

If people were jumping on O because he supported Trump, or because he said James Bond should remain a man - THAT would be cancel culture. This is a reaction to his personality, not his opinions.

A "bad" coach who "accidentally" won a natonal championship less than two years ago?

O is getting "canceled", i.e., fired, because of his team's on-field performance in 2020 and 2021. It's been terrible, and his coaching hires have been very poor from the beginning, with one exception.

Now, the other off-field stuff doesn't help, but make no mistake -- O will be fired because his LSU teams in 2020 and 2021 are absolutely terrible, and are poorly coached. Period.
