A college ace threw 124 pitches — and MLB teams grimaced

Extenuating circumstances. That must have been the case for Skenes against Tulane, right? A tightly contested, advance-or-go-home game in the tourney?
Except it was the first game of the Tigers’ regional, and they led 6-0 after five innings and 7-2 after eight.

Johnson has earned $90,000 in bonuses for reaching the NCAA tournament and steering the Tigers to host a super regional. He would make another $50,000 for reaching the College World Series, $50,000 more for making the final and $100,000 more for winning the championship.

Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in one game. Now its criminal to throw 125 at 6’6 250 and 21 yo. This is so lame.

Clearly it’s the first Skenes start they’ve followed.

Click bait. You took it hook, line, and sinker.

Plus, it’s The Washington Post, everything they publish is fricking trash.

Wonder what they had to say when Kumar Rocker threw a 131 pitch complete game a few years ago. Did Tim Corbin get heat for that?

Considering he couldn’t pass his physical with the Mets. Went unsigned. Had shoulder surgery and now (announced in may) will have tommy John surgery Kumar rocker is not the name I would be tossing out there

Yeah it really helps Jay to ruin an ace pitcher, that would do wonders for recruiting. The money party is just trash writing.

126 pitches for someone like Skeens isn’t crazy especially when he isn’t throwing again until next Saturday.

Pitch counts don’t apply to Skenes. He’d still be throwing 100mph seeds at the 150 mark.

Pitch counts aren’t there to gauge in game fatigue, they are there to protect the arms for the long term.
