-letting pat henry walk
-hiring les
-hiring smoke
-shitty facility projects (Holy hell, Alex Box and the West expansion were atrocities.)
-hiring Van Chancellor, effectively taking our wbb program "out back"

he did hire Chuck Weinsted and made LSU a fundraising machine. Oh man, he exemplified the glory days baws!!

By far. We should've let him pick his successor.

Saban was leaving regardless of who was AD at the time. NFL fame and fortune were too much for his ego to resist.

I tend to agree with this. It would have taken a lot of money to keep Saban here, but Bertman should have at least made a serious attempt. At that time though, Saban WAS obsessed with becoming an NFL coach. That was his ambition at the time. It would have been difficult for LSU to win a bidding war with Huizenga.

Brodhead hired Skip. He hired Arnsparger. He hired the coaches who built up the track program. He started Tigervision. No one matched him in hiring coaches.

Stupidity and revisionism on this board. He wan't going to keep Saban when he wanted to go to the NFL. Saban wanted to come back, but Les was 22-4 at the time Saban wanted to come back. He had two Top 5 finishes and was #3 in the year ind would have fired him. .Miles had also just guided LSU through the Katrina and Rita fiascos the year before. It would have been a PR nightmare. There is no guarantee that Saban would not have jumped elsewhere for more money or a more prestigious program.

Pokey Chatman had committed some ethical problems that left Berryman no choice at the time.

Yes, fire Miles now, but not then. It is amazing what some of you all come up with. I am glad Sind of you all aren't in positions of power

Also some of you geniuses aren't even aware of the fact that Betman wasn't the AD when Saban was hired. It was Dean. Emert was the one who hired him.

He destroyed his legacy the instant he hired Les Miles.
