Recruitment, development and scheme. It all added up. Top it off with a coach who was set on ball control and playing it safe.....

Brady isn’t the QB coach

Mettenberger came in here and lit it up so yes, QB development was an issue.
That was in Metts third year here though. He spent a little more time here than anywhere else after high school. He was a good fit for the offense.
The issue was there was poor evaluation and coaching the scheme to almost all the other QBs.

Without this scheme Burrows would look very similar to last year at the end of the year. Good but not great.
There was a change in the plays called toward the end of the year that made us more of a passing threat. But the change of scheme has allowed us to morph into the extremely dangerous passing offense that we are today.
Most kids playing HS ball run spread offenses. That’s why you see freshman QBs come in and do so well. It was very difficult to take a high school QB that ran spread all his life and throw him into a Les Miles offense and expect him to succeed.

Exact same analogy applies to Myles Brennan. That’s also why he will excel in this system.

The coaches cant teach em how to throw a wr screen pass. Until burrow none of our qbs since Flynn could execute such a simple throw. I remember all of them either air mailing it or in the dirt or so far behind the wr gets tackled for a loss

Y'all have said this since he left. He had a little better arm, and his big accomplishment was a 3000 yd year. Neither year was great.
He was better than what we were used to is all. Burrow is on track for a 4000 yd yr. IMO offensive scheme has everything to do with it. In Mett's defense, that was primitive when he was here.

All I know is that we didn’t have QB/modern offense development before...and now we have it. I like now vs before.

To the OP's question and assuming he's has in mind more than last year:
- IMO, true Fr QB's will need some development in this system.
- I think after '08, Les's system no longer required QB development other than a very limited sense. It wasn't QB-centric.

hmmmm...
*pictures Brandon Harris running backwards, for no reason, attempting to throw to LF7 in the flat, but LF7 doesn't know he's in a pass route off of play action on 3rd and 18 (because why not!) and BH throwing a laser... to the DTs mom in the first row*
After careful contemplation, I'm going to say...
YES

Yes, it was our biggest issue.

I'll never understand Brandon Harris.
Could nail a 50 yard deep ball, but couldn't hit a five yard out route.
We were all so optimistic that Jennings and then Harris would be good quarterbacks.
6 Heismans anyone?

Yes Miles may even exceed Joe in the end. After the season is over it will be Miles taking most of first round snaps spring/summer. His timing with receivers will be there by game time. And he has a hell of a arm.
With our offense we will attract top 5 star QBs and WRs. Hopefully being mentioned in the same breath with Bama and Clemson will get us some 5 star OL and DL.
It’s a good time to be a tiger.

QBs can not develop in an unsuccessful scheme they're not comfortable in

With respect to JB9 his development started at the kitchen table with his father who was a college footbal coach. When JB9 finished high school he was already a far better reader of defenses than most other college QBs ever become.
