Was artificial turf the reason the ball bounced high enough for the runner to get home?

Even in the Box that run likely still scores…

But it didn’t hurt… runner from 3rd was going and even on turf I think that it scores

On grass, probably not, but I’ve seen balls bounce like that when it hits the ground in front of the mound or near it because it’s usually much shorter there or it’s dirt so it definitely happens in a similar way on a real field.

There are pros and cons to playing on both. I always prefer the real stuff myself. A field is a field and you play with an advantage if it’s your field, for sure. LSU just got hot at the exact right time with some luck on their side in both these games. This stuff doesn’t happen very often much less two games in a row. It’s crazy! But I love it!

I've replayed the final play a lot. The Southern Mississippi player had to jump and then land before he could make his throw to the plate. It would have been a lot closer or an out had he not had to leave his feet.

If so we learned that at Vandy. Damn trampoline under the turf in front of the plate!

Now you are exaggerating quite a bit. On a grass field that ball would have still bounced off the dirt area, not the grass. So the hop would not have been quite as high, but he still pounded that thing into the ground right in front of the plate. It was going over the pitchers head anywhere.

And they know it because it is their field.

The ole “ Baltimore Chop” was named long before artificial turf. It does require hard dirt in front of home plate and hitting on top of the ball.
