I don’t believe in retiring numbers. Hopefully retiring the jersey doesn’t mean retiring the number.

I do because the three that are retired were all time. All three played on all three units. One was a 3 time AA.

It’s ok to retire jerseys. You dont have to retire the number unless the situation demands it.

Please no more retiring numbers. I'll never understand LSU fans obsession with it.

And yes, I know this is about retiring jerseys which is fine by me. I have no issue with this.

Florida didn't even retire Tebow's number.

If this doesn’t include Faulk it’s bullshite. We all know Burrow and JD are locks. But Faulk should get his jersey retired at minimum.

Of course Kevin Faulk's name will go up in Tiger Stadium at some point, but there are several All Americans and Heisman finalists from pre1990 that should be recognized while they are still alive.

Bert Jones
Charles Alexander
Dalton Hilliard (maybe)

and if you want to really go back in time:
Doc Fenton
Gaynell Tinsley

Get those guys taken care of, absolutely put Faulk in, and then you may need to expand TS for the post 2000 crowd

I don't think we retire numbers. Maybe just Heisman winners but I won't lose sleep over it.

He’s had a statue since 2011.
He left Florida at the beginning of 2010.

retiring jerseys

Please try to explain just what the eff this is. Someone mentioned Thomas Dunston earlier…..didn’t we retire his jersey? It’s probably in his parents’ attic or it’s hanging in his game room. Maybe it was sold in the North Stadium gift shop. Regardless, we don’t use that jersey. It was retired.

Semantics. “Retiring jerseys” became a thing (a meaningless thing) when universities realized they couldn’t keep retiring numbers, or they’d (a) eventually run out, and (b) were running the risk of having kids tell them they weren’t enrolling if they couldn’t have “their” number.

Burrow
Tittle
Dorsey
Faulk
Daniels
Peterson

My requirements on this would be a lot higher than most people’s, and I don’t want this to turn into a back-and-forth discussion, but in my opinion Tittle, Peterson, and Whitworth wouldn’t make the cut. Mathieu would have made it with another stellar year.

Not sure which it is: is it to get a jersey retired or entrance to LSU's HOF that a certain number of years post last game played has occurred??

We already have so many duplicate numbers it’s ridiculous. Believe it or not, it didn’t used to be that way.
Outside of walk ons, our duplicate numbers are not out of necessity and walk ons mathematically require duplicates.

LSU has three numbers retired
#20 - Billy Cannon (first heisman winner)
#37 - Tommy Casanova (first three time all american)
#21 - Jerry Stovall (two time all conference, all american, SEC player of the year, CFB HOF).

Daniels and Burrow deserve to have #5 and #9 retired. Faulk and Dorsey certainly have cases for #3 and #72.

It's not like we hand these things out like candy. We just happen to be in one of the greatest 25 year stretch in NCAA history, and by far the best in program history. You're going to have some awards to dole out.

Faulk faneca should be 1 and 2
