Why would he? Didn’t they just host and win a postseason regional?

Torina is a good enough coach for a non revenue sport.
Yep. Save firing coaches on big contracts for revenue sports where it will impact balance sheet

I can’t name two players on the team. Unless you are some avid softball fan, who cares?

Gotta be the most activity on TD about softball in years....

He can always find some complaints here if he needs them.

We wouldn't accept it in other sports, but mediocrity in softball is ok.
we would accept mediocrity in about any sport that loses a ton of money and no one watches. Softball falls into that category

It’s a tougher job with Texas and Oklahoma in SEC now.

mens BB was mediocre for years under mcclown. and they made $$$!!!
womens BB and T&F are the biggest $$$ losers at LSU. but not mediocre?
it is a fricked up situation.
so it is ok to lose $$$$ BIGLY.........IF they win big like womens BB??
invest and get the program elite or just cut funding for all these programs that so called "dont matter" and lose $$$$. no reason to put another dime in these programs if nobody cares and since they dont make money. that goes for womens BB as well.
put all the $$ in football and mens basketball. the only 2 that make $$$
mens baseball loses $$$ also do we cut that with softball?
see the conundrum here?

wrong. basically all these sports are "niche" sports except football. everybody loves football. many give no shits about basketball.
ncaa baseball gets terrible coverage nationwide. so basically "nobody" watches that either using your definition.
only hardcore basketballers(men and women) watch that like softballers.
niche sports.

You seem upset.
Here’s the deal - Beth is making the post season. That’s good enough for softball.
If you don’t like it, that’s really too bad. It’s not changing and it shouldn’t.

womens basketball was ok being mediocre for a long time. Mulkey kinda landed in their lap, but they let Fargas be terrible for a good 5 years before she finally she quit and took a front office job in the WNBA. So yeah, they weren't too concerned with womens basket ball being great either.
Track and field has had the same coach for 20 years. He hasn't won a national title in mens or womens in well over 10 years now. Hasn't won an SEC title in over 10 years either. He still has a job. he was also an internal hire when Murphy left in 2004.
Sometimes non revenue sports happen to be good and that's great for them. But that doesn't mean the university has some different opinion in investing in those sports. Mulkey being from the area and wanting to coach at LSU was a very unique situation. Had that not been the case, no LSU wasn't going out to spend some obscene amount of money on womens basketball.
Torina has actually been consistently successful. She makes the supers almost every year and never misses the NCAAT. For a non-revenue sport, that's not going to get you fired many places nor should it.

I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are about basically all of this
But I will tell you this...in our last fiscal year, softball had a total revenue (that includes ticket sales. merchandise, etc) of under $500k. Baseball was at 8.5 million, mens basketball at 13 million (while being terrible), and womens basketball 2.6 million. The gymnastics team revenue was double what softball was. Softball is 6th in the AD in terms of pruducing revenue. It makes no sense to start firing coaches, paying buyouts, and then paying out the arse for a sport no one here (our fans) care about to any significant level. Oklahoma is the only program in the country that spends stupid money on softball, and they also lose a stupid amount of money on it too.
In a sport like softball, as long as the coach is 1) reasonably competitive; 2) players are graduating; and 3) the coach doesn't publicly embarrass the school, then that coach is not going to be on the chopping block. If the coach happens to be really successful, then that's just gravy. You can hate it all you want, but that's reality.

Texas is an elite softball program in an elite softball state with elite softball money.
It would be a great goal to become a program like Texas. Suggesting it's something that SHOULD happen and a debacle if we aren't Texas is humorously, laughably ignorant.

Are you saying that runner up isn't "right there"?
You can't even make a consistent argument that makes sense. Are you saying the season Texas Tech had wouldn't be evidence of getting this program to where you'd want it?
You are in a dreamland man.
