Obviously, O and Verge are a little apprehensive about the Utah State game. Scheduled an open date the week before.

Prepare thy anus
For real, I know y’all are mostly conservative Mormons who don’t condone drinking or premarital sex...both of which are things that happen a lot on game day

Watch some of the games last year.
You will see Burrow lacks nothing, he has the heart of a champion.
He’s my favorite Tiger right now. He cares about this team and he cares about LSU.
He’s a fighter and a winner.
Anyone here not happy with Burrows performance last year, wouldn’t be satisfied with Joe Montana or Drew Brees.
Without him we wouldn’t have won all the games we did and wouldn’t end the season ranked #6.
Hope y’all win all your games except this one.

Anytime! I forgot that Aranda is at LSU. He's an awesome DC.
Also thanks for all the info. I appriciate it.
As for the comments about the booz. I personally don't drink, but there will be plenty of USU fans at the game in Death Valley who will be happy to join your tailgate and drink your booz.

So you went to East High? How dominant was Apu? Anyone at East in Apu's league talent-wise?
Posted on 7/16/19 at 12:02 pm to AggieUprising50
You’ll literally find mixed reviews on anybody and everything around here. Nothing is constant, it seems, other than a lot of bitching and moaning, pretty much like most fan sites.

Utah state is a really solid smaller program. And there seems to be a lot of good coaches who come from there.

I think the posters above gave you a good breakdown of the team.
In addition to the talent LSU has, the weather may also be a factor. The humidity is tough. If it is warm that night, then it will be an advantage to LSU. As for crowd noise...probably not. Basically, third downs early on make bring some noise, but unless LSU turns the ball over and gets behind early, then I wouldn't expect much. If there is a 14 point (us) lead at half, then expect to see an empty stadium.
FWIW, I respect the Utah State program. It is a respectable program most years (and occasiinally pretty darned good). LSU has an opportunity to be great this season. At the end of the night, I believe your affinity for the Tigers will be stronger. Report back afterwards and post about your experience. A word of advice, be outgoing and polite and you will find LSU fans are the most hospitable in the country. Eat your fill and enjoy your visit.

Great question. APU killed it at East. There's a reason he was getting offers from all over the country.
As good as he was, he was not a diamond in the rough.
In East's school district, there's a neighborhood with an insane amount of Tongans like APU. They're big, and incredibly fast and athletic for their size. Both East and Bingham high school have a lot more SEC level guys coming up in the next couple of years too.

Offense:
QB - Joe Burrow returning for his second year. Ended last year fantastic. Probably the most optimistic LSU fans have been about a returning QB since Mettenberger in 2013.
RB - Returning Clyde Edwards-Helaire from last year. He is a quality back, but not what LSU fans are used to seeing. He will get the bulk of the carries early on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else take over as the primary back. LSU fans would probably lean towards John Emery, true freshman rated #1 or #2 RB in last years class depending on the recruiting website.
OL - Return 4 of 5 starters. We are solid inside last year, and expect to be again this year. The problem is that we have no true tackles. Both tackles are converted guards that really struggle in pass protection against speed rushers. By far our biggest weakness. Even Southeastern and La Tech got pressure on Burrow last year.
WR/TE - We return basically everyone expect our starting TE who was not a threat to catch passes at all (more scheme than his ability). Justin Jefferson, Ja'Mar Chase, and Terrace Marshall are our top 3 guys. All are studs.
Coaching - We hired a new passing game coordinator this last year, Joe Brady. He's 29 years old coming from the Saints and apparently he's brilliant. We are optimistic this is the year we finally have a modern offense, but at this point its a "I'll believe it when I see it" kind of deal.
Defense:
DL - Return most of our DL. Rashard Lawrence is our best DLinemen. I wouldn't say they are a weakness, but we aren't deep and they aren't uber talented aside from Lawrence. Its unfair to the kid, but we will honestly probably be relying on Apu Ika to help at NG this year. He was dominant in the spring game.
ILB - Very hard to replace a Bednarik award winner and #5 overall pick in the NFL draft, but we will come about as close as possible to doing that with our returning duo of Michael Divinity and Jacob Philips. Philips is on preseason lists. He was great last year and should be again this year.
OLB/Pass Rusher - Last year we weren't great at generating pressure with 4 guys. Our pass rushers were just average. However, we return K'Lavon Chaisson this year. He tore his ACL in the first game last year, but prior to his injury he was getting all sorts of hype. If he has recovered well, we expect drastic improvement in our ability to create pressure.
S - Grant Delpit is the best defender in college football. The other safety will likely be Todd Harris who was solid last year in a backup roll.
CB - We lose Greedy Williams, but replace him with Derek Stingley Jr. who some scouts have labeled the best CB prospect they have ever seen. On the other side we have a preseason all-american in Kristian Fulton. We are loaded at DB.
Coaches - Dave Aranda aka The Goat
I have alot of respect for Utah St after watching them nearly pull off so many upsets. My questions would be: Who are your pass rushers? Who is your RB? Thats the only path to victory for Utah St. You have to be able to run the ball on us, and you have to be able to create pressure rushing 4. Those are the weaknesses to take advantage of LSU. Any passes need to be quick. If you get in a 3rd and long or if you try to run longer developing pass plays, you are going to have a bad time.

Far and away our best rusher is Tipa Galeai. The guy gave everyone fits last year. He had 3 sacks against Michigan State. He's 6-5 230. Long and a great first step.
Our running backs will be pretty good. We lost a good one in Darwin Thompson last year to the draft, but luckily we return Gerold Bright. He's pretty good at running through the tackles, but he's an outstanding home-run threat. Very fast and can catch out of the backfield.
We just brought in Juco All American Jaylen Warren (also from East High School coincidentally). He's about 5'8" 225. Runs very hard and has great vision. He will be our thunder while Bright is our lightning.
Completely agree on your assessment. Our only hope (and it's still a long shot) to win is establish a run game and get a great pass rush.

Our secondary is scary every year, that’s why we are called DBU. I respect Utah State y’all are a very good team in that conference but you may want to plan on doing something else when we play y’all. You’re coming to play big boy football against LSU. I wouldn’t expect we need to throw the ball very much it’s going to be a classic run it down your throat until you make the other team quit kind of game.

You should be. Pretty much every USU fans expects the Tigers to take this game. We're just hoping to make it competitive.
I will say that we do have an awesome Qb who can play with anybody. I just hope we're able to give him time against your pass rush.

I can see there are some mixed reviews on Burrow on this board.
LSU could have fricking Tom Brady starting at QB and half of this board would still complain. That's fairly standard...
Offense will rest largely on O-line performance, run game establishment and receivers not dropping the ball. If all that works out, we should be in fairly decent shape.
