USL is just as accurate a name as UL is.

I prefer "Southwestern Trade School"

Who cares what they call themselves. The lack of success speaks for itself. Nobody really cares who they are. And when you say UL most think you are referring to Louisville.

Proper Use of the University's Name
University of Louisiana at Lafayette® has been the formal and official name of the University since 1999. Please use it in first reference to the University in text. UL Lafayette may be used as an abbreviation to refer to the academic institution when clarification is necessary.
Name: University of Louisiana at Lafayette®
Academic Abbreviation: UL Lafayette Athletics
Nickname: Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® Athletics
Shortened Names: Louisiana, Ragin' Cajuns, and Cajuns Athletics
Abbreviation: LA (for score/stats listings only)
Athletics Nickname
Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® is the nickname of the University’s athletic teams. Teams also may be referred to as Louisiana, Ragin' Cajuns, or Cajuns. In most cases, Ragin’ Cajuns plural is proper, though Ragin’ Cajun in the singular form can apply.
Registration Marks
Please include a registered symbol (®) as a subscript for the first reference of the terms University of Louisiana at Lafayette® and Ragin’ Cajuns® in text. The registered symbol must appear in every use of the logos.
Logos and Name Use
All uses of the University’s name, department names, nicknames, logos and visual marks (including the Ragin' Cajuns® family of marks) or any likenesses, including but not limited to advertising, stationery, websites, cobranding, facilities or apparel, must be approved by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Internal uses of the University's name for academic or educational purposes, such as syllabi or course materials, do not need to be approved by Communications and Marketing.
Inaccurate References
-Do not refer to the University as ULL in any instance.
-Do not use the terms Lafayette or U of L, as they denote other institutions.
The Inaccurate References part of that page makes me laugh. Do not, in any instance! It just makes them seem insecure.

So to get around this they used a loophole. Which means their official title in athletics is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Louisiana Ragin Cajuns?

I'd rather go back to USL so both sides quit acting like queers about it
That would be sensible and for ULM to return to NLU as well.
No one outside of Louisiana really cares. ULL is certainly not recognized as the University of Louisiana in practical terms by anyone other than some folks in Lafayette and the ULL alums in parts elsewhere. My guess is that if you were an alum living in Arizona and you told some you met you attended the University of Louisiana they would not know what you were talking about.

Meh. A lot of universities are rabid about their branding. I hate it when they call LSU "Louisiana State" in broadcasts. I remember when USCw had a press release stating that they are to be referred to as USC or The University of Southern California, not "Southern Cal." Branding is a business like any other.

Nicholls calls itself "Harvard on the Bayou." Does that mean that Nicholls can issue a demand to ESPN that they use the name "Harvard" in all broadcasts and you cannot use the word "Nicholls" under any circumstances?

I don't mind this. I have plenty of LSU license gear (admittedly some of it more vintage) that just says Louisiana State on it. It's a bit antiquated and authentic and I like it.

Y’all are spending way too much time on this.

I'm sure you understand the difference between a business protecting their trademark vs. a nickname using another businesses brand name.
Every university does this.

From LSU's Athletics Brand Identity Guidelines:

quote:
OFFICIAL NAME “LSU”, “LSU Tigers” or “Louisiana State University” are the only acceptable ways to describe teams or departments within LSU Athletics. “Louisiana State” is not acceptable

Does this mean all of their fans that refer to UL@L as UL are now criminals? Would that make all of their athletes and coaches criminals too? Hey they could win the Fulmer Cup this way!!

Oh my god who the hell cares. They can call themselves University of Earth, it wouldn’t bother me a bit. Get over it. It’s making LSU fans act like little bitches.
I never see most of these idiot LSU "fans" who come out of the woodwork on threads like this anywhere else BUT threads like this.
Posted on 3/15/18 at 3:58 pm to someLSUdoosh
Just change the school name to University of Lafayette and they can keep "UL" that way. They've changed their name 3 times already so one more wouldn't hurt.

I've always wondered why we don't like Louisiana State. I mean you have Ohio State, Michigan State, Florida State, and Miss State, but we seem to not like that. Makes little sense to me.
Posted on 3/15/18 at 4:22 pm to Sasquatch Smash
they actually found a loophole the name Lafayette only has to be on uniforms somewhere.
