I guess we didn't watch the same game. Dak had a 65% completion percentage and passed for 335 yards. Now we did stop the inside run, but the jury is still out on Steele.

Wow, what were you watching? If you couldn't see a difference I don't know what to tell you. While one game is too small a sample size to say how good Steele will be, I certainly saw a change in the defense. For one, how much of those 335 yards passing were yards after catch? Not many, nor were there any big plays down the field, it was all underneath and the receivers were pretty well instantly tackled. In fact, this defense tackled like I haven't seen an LSU defense tackle in a long time. And since you want to rely on stats, how much did Miss St. gain on the ground? A fraction of what they ground out last year including Dak running at will. That didn't happen this year. And the ultimate difference, we actually stopped a team in the last minute from marching down the field and winning the game, something that Chavis' defenses seemed unable to do the last few years with the game on the line.

Oh I remember the good, but the way Chavis left and abandoned his team will forever overshadow the good he did. Did I want him to leave? No, but now that he's gone, good riddance especially given the classless and unprofessional manner in which he handled his departure.

Have you forgotten that we had the #1 defense in the SEC last season?
We did stop the inside runs, but all of their yards came on outside runs. (tosses and Sweeps) last season we had Welter in against them. When Beckwith took the starting job the entire defense changed. Slow down with this Steele is better than Chavis talk. We have a pass rush now but it disappeared in the second half. Dak is the best QB that we will see this season so that's a good sign.

Does he have a chance at getting that money he is asking for, OT lawyers?

He certainly broke his contract, but what's the punishment for that? I mean there are sanctions for illegally contacted recruits at certain points, but I'm guessing coaches and their agents field calls pretty regularly. He will lose in court, but is it possible Texas A&M faces any real punishment? Just curious. Hopefully they have to forfeit games that he coaches in. That would be hilarious.

Glad he turned it down. 3rd and Chavis would've lost the Saturday night.

Best thing that could have happened losing chavis! He was an average dc and terrible in tha last min of games. Can't say he sucked at recruiting because he did not recruit at all! His dl coach was not good at all!its a win win for LSU!!!!

We had great defense with Muschamp, we had great defense with Pelini, we had great defense in the first 3 quarters with Chavis and we will have great defense with Steel. The common thread is great talent that wants to come to LSU. In the game between the Cowboys and Giants Sunday night there were 10 players from LSU between the two rosters. Nuff said.

No he didn't! ND was outclassed, out gunned, and should never have been on the same field as LSU.

You should stop and compare the stats from last year's game. Dak attempted more that 2xs the passes last weekend, only gained 100-ish passing yds from last yrs game, reduced his yards per completion avg. in HALF, AND the entire teams rushing yardage was HALF of what Prescott ran on us, alone, last year! A tremendous improvement in defense this past weekend, on the road!

Did Ross name his sources in that article? Seems like a click bait article that he does a lot.

You are forgetting a co-coach in there.

I haven't read the contract in depth and part of this is going off of memory, but if I recall correctly, he was guaranteed $400k if he stayed until a certain date. If he left early, he didn't get it. He's claiming that he stayed until that date (January 3ish?), and so he's due. LSU's position is "bullshite you did, you were 3/4 of the way out the door and had already agreed to take another job."
So there is no real penalty unless the contract specifically calls for one under these circumstances (which is highly doubtful), but he wouldn't get his extra compensation. Sometimes contracts also include a "loser pays the legal fees" provision, which can be entertaining too, because I can assure you both sides have already incurred $400k in fees...

ndsight being 20/20, it is a shame that Miles let him coach in the bowl game. However, Miles probably thought that Chavis would give his best effort during the game.

There is his loyalty to a fault. But it worked out with Pelini. So I can see where he puts his faith in a man to be professional.
