The post and question are so freaking stupid. Love how you edited your post in response to the responses to act like you saw it coming.

This is the ONE tradition I wish they would bring back to Tiger stadium. If it's the PETA nutjobs who are forcing LSUs hand and not allowing this to happen, how come they don't raise a stink about all the other live mascots in college football that still take the field?!?!
Frankly, I cant believe you even have to ask that question since the question has been answered on here more than a hundred times...
But one more fricking time...
LSU owns Mike. LSU is a govt entity. All the world wildlife conservation groups have banded together to get laws passed that internationally outlaw marketing big cats. The only way LSU could get a new Mike was to sign an agreement to be a big cat rescue facility that met certain standards and then the cat has to be donated. Parading Mike in a cage in front of large crowds with pyrotechnics was considered abusive by these groups and hence LSU agreed not to do so. Willfully violating this agreement wil likely mean the end of Mike on campus.
Now Memphis State has a tiger that is used like we used to but he is privately owned.
But LSU being a govt run institution will not cross the boundaries set forth in the laws governing sales and boarding of big cats.

The only way to placate PETA and their ilk is to end the program.
The decision not to bring the tiger to games has little to nothing to do with PETA and everything to do with remaining a certified tiger sanctuary. No one involved with the animal considers bringing him in the stadium or forcing him in the trailer to be in the tiger's best interest. Its as simple as that.

Then stop the fireworks. I’d rather have Mike than the fireworks.
Was it really that important to be able to look at the outside of a white cage to see the vague shadow of a cat laying down from 50-200 yards away?
I never really got the obsession with having Mike there to begin with. Its not like you could see it. "Hey look guys, there's the outside of Mikes cage, brought to you by Gerry Lane"

Exactly.

Like I said, LSU has no problem getting a replacement tiger with or without any arbitrary certification or designation as a rescue facility.
LSU had multiple entities reach out willing to provide a live tiger without any certification or designation.
You are out right lying. Please provide me with your LSU credentials so I can report your anonymous use of a message board to spread verifiable lies.
Other posters and readers, do not believe these leftist and Marxist who only want to destroy traditions and culture. They would prefer we have no football if it was up to them. Don’t give an inch.

Informative post.

A steer or dog don't need a cage to get to the field?

I see a bias toward the Tiger.

That trailer was for one thing. Going to the stadium. You don't think a cat can learn "Hey I don't like what follows getting in this thing"?
This statement shows your ignorance, and that's exactly how the veterinarian staff at LSU want you. Easily duped.
Mike is taken to the LSU vet school several times each year. He is in that travel cage for reasons other than LSU football games.

Like I've said before - people like you are so eaten up with hate that they have it etched onto their eyeballs. It's impossible for you to see anything that isn't tinged by that hate.
Have a downvote, good sir, and a RA for good measure as well.

I loved having Mike in the stadium and it happened for decades. In fact, they used to take him to some road games until his trailer unhitched in route to a game and he wound up in the ditch. I'll always remember the Bear and Bama taking their pre-game walk around the whole stadium and coming to that Tiger cage. The " Bear " vs Mike da Tiger.

Only solution to get him back would be an enclosed bridge from his enclosure to the stadium where he could come and go as he pleases.
That would actually be awesome. Set it up like the Big Cat Crossing at Philadelphia Zoo.

If Mike ever freaked out in his cage while at a game, it would end LSU having a tiger anywhere.

Agree. Are the people opposed to this concerned it's going to scare a grown tiger? Is it really going to cause irreparable harm? Debilitating anxiety?
How is it that previous Mike The Tiger's weren't scared all the way to death? Is current Mike too sheltered? Too much time on SnapChat? Needs a safe space?
We're talking about being him being in a cage for less than 30 hours per year. 30 Hours. Per. Year.
This was one of the best and coolest traditions in college football for many years.
I don't want Mike The Tiger to get dead, and I think being in the stadium for pre-game--as he was for years in the past--was a blast.

lol at comparing a couple of dogs and a hamburger to a tiger.
You get that it's not an enjoyable process for a tiger, right? Being drugged, loaded into a cage, and then paraded around a loud stadium. That's not what a tiger does.
Keep Mike in his habitat.

It’s simple.
The very few groups that can get us a bengal tiger, don’t want him going into the stadium.
If we lose that access, we don’t get another Mike.
Much easier to get another dog, longhorn, Eagle, buffalo, etc.

I mean.. a cat is a cat. It might not be harmful but it's just a bit cruel and unnecessary. Why subject a tiger to all that noise and chaos?
As to the previous Mikes being on the field.. that was a different time. Right or wrong, it's never going to happen again, but apparently this question will get asked until the end of time.
Do people really think it was that "intimidating" for opposing teams? It's no different than going to the zoo. Mike was in a cage. There was no chance he was going to escape and maul all the opposing players.
Of all the things to gripe about, this one vexes me. It's just not a hill worth dying on imo.
But to each their own
