Shelvin doesn't really look flabby. Him and Ed are going to be beastS in the middle at NT.

I personally think Shelvin looks damn good compared to where he was when he came in. I've seen that kid play and even when he was bigger than he is now he was DOMINATING. And it wasn't just with power. The kid was quick. I've quietly touted this kid to be a superstar at LSU but I'm gonna hold off on that until I can see he keeps his grades up and can stay on the field.

Basically, if he buys in whole heartedly and WANTS to be good, he'll be one of, if not the best nose tackle in the SEC. In my opinion, of course.

O has made a concentrated effort to shore up our trenches on both sides of the ball. Honestly, this is the only place to start any team. We have matched Bama in skill positions for the past 6 years, imo. We have lagged far behind in the trench.

Nah, our DE’s (Lawrence and Fehoko) are both right at 300 lbs., and I don’t think anyone would accuse either of them for being too big & slow for their position. Was Wilifork too fat? I fully expect a true NT to weigh in Shelvin’s range.

I’m excited that this will be the first season we’ve actually had d-linemen of the size and caliber that are typically associated with a 3-4.

Shelvin looks fatter than Ed. But there’s a long way to go till September. I think he’ll be fine.

I think he will not be fine. We are seeing a pattern now, not an isolated instance. First, he did not do the things he had to do in order to get on the field as a freshman - and that bar is set extremely low. This speaks to extreme laziness. Did he learn his lesson? Well, he follows up by reporting to spring in terrible shape.

Usually when a young player is lazy he stays that way. Hopefully he is different, but I would not expect him to be fit enough to play half the snaps next season.

He looks good to me.

It’s hard time tell though how much he weighs. Shelving losing 30 lbs is like throwing a deck chair off the titanic.

Shelvin could play at 330-340 and be just fine. Him and Alexander should rotate pretty regularly at the NT spot and we see little to no dropoff between the 2.

He will be fine in a 3-4. Terrance Cody played at 360 for Bama. Shelvin is a little shorter but he can actually move pretty quick for a big man. He should be able to play at 320 or so

I don't agree. I did the radio for a 1a playoff game Davenport played in. He was a kid who because of his size dominated 1a football, but in the game I watched against a better offensive line he did not look all that dominant.

Shelvin dominated at a higher classification and to me seems much, much more athletic than Davenport.

Shelvin's problem is his weight, not his overall athleticism.

With Alexander, Shelvin and all the new big kids coming in, LSU is going to have a lot of beef up front. I think Shelvin at a minimum will help stuff the inside running game and at his best will create an inside pass rush.

Quarterbacks hate inside pressure. It cramps their pocket and their ability to step into the throw.
