so if you get a dwi, you are kicked off the team immediately. but if you steal, you get suspended for 1 game?

Kid made a mistake. Cue all the perfect folks to go ahead and cast stones. The rest of us just say do better son and move on.

ETA-typo correction.

I'm really surprised at the reaction in this thread. The kid committed a crime and many of you want to blame the NCAA for it. It's not like he stole a loaf of bread to keep from starving. He stole chips and a coke. I don't care if it is only $2.00. The amount he stole doesn't make it any less reprehensible.

No one condones him stealing, but you don't give the same punishment to a speeder and a rapist. It's all relative to the severity of the situation. Besides, the judge ins this case is Coach Mainieri and that's what he felt was appropriate.

If a (non athlete) kid on a full academic scholarship can get a part time job (20 hrs) at most administration offices, why can't athletes who need, have the same opportunity? Even if u pay an athlete minimum wage for the 20 hrs a week they put in for practice time, non games.

The student dismissed for the DUI had previous undisclosed reprimands. This comes from one of the players parents fwiw.

Suspension? Pfft. If I were PM, and I'm not, but if I were, next time we were up 6+ runs and he wasn't pitching, I'd put him in to pinch run and make him try to steal bases. Over and over, and over, and over, and over....

But, he looked like a really honest guy. And i think he was an athlete so i'll let the selling for over face value slide.

the way McCune stepped up Sunday, this may end up costing Tyler a lil more than just a 1gm suspension

Well, it's baseball season, it probably wouldn't be much of a story in october. And it's probably already become more of a story than it should have. My problem is more with the people who seem to think because he's an athlete and he"makes money for the school" he somehow should be exempt from any kind of punishment. I'm all for letting it go and moving on.

P.S. If this were say a Florida player, would we have Lays chip day at the Box during their series?
