He stole chips and a coke. I don't care if it is only $2.00. The amount he stole doesn't make it any less reprehensible.

The amount does make it less reprehensible. Not right, but there is a sliding scale. I'm sure he will learn a valuable lesson from this.

Well, first of all someone should know right from wrong. Stealing is stealing.

The way some of you just blow this off is just 'ignant'!! If being poor was reason to steal then Mother Theresa would be up for parole rather than sainthood!

No, it means that a DWI is worse than stealing a bag of chips and a freaking drink.

HOW COME NO ONE IS USING COMMON SENSE HERE?? The guy stole $2 dollars worth of food.

LA state law wouldn't even hold this guy in jail long enough to do more than a day's worth of jail time. So move on folks.

(3) When the misappropriation or taking amounts to less than a value of three hundred dollars, the offender shall be imprisoned for not more than six months, or may be fined not more than one thousand dollars, or both. If the offender in such cases has been convicted of theft two or more times previously, upon any subsequent conviction he shall be imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than two years, or may be fined not more than two thousand dollars, or both."

Because we hold our athletes to higher standard than the numbskulls who run around town stealing. They represent LSU and the people of this State are supporting them financially. A requirement to play at LSU should be to at least have a frickin brain!

Apparently not. If they only have 11.7 scholarships for baseball, how do the other players get support financially from the state? You have to give out partial scholarships to all the players. The full ride is in football and basketball, among other sports.

I guess I should have said that we 'partially' support them so you wouldn't get your nuts in a knot over that detail! I guess what he should have done since he is only partial scholly is to just steal the frickin chips and not the coke!

Tell me what you would have done if you were PM.

He did the right thing suspending the kid for three games and that is that. Time to move on. I do not condone stealing but let's face facts here, $2 bucks worth of anything is one day in jail and not 3 days like PM suspended him for. It is what it is and it is time to move on.

Matulis would never have considered this. Unfortunately, he never considered pitching worth a frick either.

My friend was on an academic scholarship for baseball back in the 90's and he received food for meals from athletics.

I thought all athletes pretty much had access to LSU dining even if not on athletic scholarship.

Not paying for a bag of chips is not the same as driving drunk. Jesus

And what's Jesus have to do with this?
