it is a fun game but i'm glad Troy stood his ground.

too bad, but business is business and it looks like neither side thought it was in their best interest.

I have been complaining for years on this board about Tulane gouging the LSU fans or not making tickets available to them for the game in New Orleans. . I have started threads on this topic and stated my opinion on others that LSU should not allow this to happen. I am usually met with a chorus of down votes. I am happy to see that Paul Mainieri has now echoed my sentiments in his press conference. Having the game on Tulane's pay per view (who knew there was such a thing?) and not allowing it on regular television was the last straw. I would like to see the series continue but LSU is right to take full advantage of its bargaining power.

Huh? We get our arse handed to us mid-week all the time. Nothing to do with Tulane.

were they gouging LSU fans or charging up in response to the market? unless I am mistaken Tulane fans had to pay the same thing. I don't think LSU would like it if Alabama came in and told them what to do with their media rights for a football game.

also, as others pointed out it is common to charge different prices for different games. Tulane is the cheapest ticket on Ohio State's schedule. I am sure LSU has tiers for its ticketing. I suspect LSU just didn't want to play Tulane twice a year anymore and is using the TV situation as a pretext. That is fine but it is too bad. I have heard the super-regional in 2001 was a great atmosphere. I've been to several games when neither team was as good and they have always been really enjoyable.

Why are we as LSU fans on an LSU board even discussing Tulane? They are so irrelevant in sports it's not worth the effort.

ULL has a more successful program than Tulane so I'm glad they lost the only game they actually had an attendance for.

Screw Tulane.

Yes.

When a team normally charges $8-10 per ticket for a midweek game but charges $35/ticket for the LSU game, that's gouging.

You are mistaken. A Tulane season ticket holder's price for the LSU game was not $35/ticket.

but a casual Tulane fan off the street had to pay $35 bucks same as an LSU fan off the street. throwing season ticket holders into the mix is a red herring. i am sure season ticket holders get all kinds of perks and pay different fees.
sorry, but this was playing to the market not some slight to LSU.

Oxymoron.

And now LSU refusing to play Tulane every year in New Orleans is not a slight to Tulane. Get in line behind Nicholls State and McNeese....

I've been chirping in Mainieri's ear for years to stop playing Tulane in New Orleans every year. I'm glad it's finally happened.

Doesn’t LSU do exactly this for football and basketball?

if you really think LSU cares whether or not a small subset of their fan base has to pay up for a ticket or cannot watch a game on TV, then, by all means, continue to live in that fantasy land. they didn't want to continue the home and home and Tulane told them to pound sand with their "rotation".

none of this bothers me, I just am commenting that it was a fun game and, for LSU folks in NOLA, it certainly was a rivalry game.

Just because their Tulane alum buddies in the office wouldn’t shut up about the game doesn’t make it a rivalry for them too.

Screw Tulane and let them rot! What are they the 5th best program in the state?

LSU
ULL
Southeastern
Northwestern
Tulane

Yeah, we and SEC teams are the only ones who can raise prices for higher profile games. Such impertinence from those Tulane pissants.......and then they have the nerve to beat us!!!!!!

Never again......we'll just drop the series

I personally thought the games were pretty competitive. I can’t blame Tulane for trying to make money on the game when they can. Lord knows they don’t have much fan support in New Orleans.

Tulane hiked up the prices for LSU/Tulane games in Nola knowing that LSU fans would make up at least half the crowd. And then had the nerve to make people pay like $8 to watch via the Tulane stream if they wanted to watch on TV.

Tulane needs LSU more than LSU needs Tulane. I won’t lose sleep over this.

From a Tiger fan who remembers sitting in old Tulane Stadium.

The best way to interface with Tulane in all ways is just NOT.
Starting to think the same way with ULL.

Let the chips fall as they may, each should go their separate way.

LSU helping the casual Tulane fan!
Now when they walk up and pay $8 they will have $27 dollars to spend elsewhere!
Thanks Paul.
