a guy that failed multiple drug test and missed a ton of classes.

If he's graduated, what's he need the scholarship for .. Should give another the opportunity, no?

Im speaking more along the lines of kicking shitty players off the team for getting in trouble, yet giving TM7 and Perriloux numerous chances.
Les kicked TM7 and RP off the team and it cost him/LSU a title in 2012 and probably 2009 as well.
HE KICKED THEM OFF THE TEAM. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

The staff has been looking at this for a while. Too many scholarships tied up in kicking. Trent and Colby have both graduated and have one year left. Both have scholarships. One had to go because they promised Jack a scholarship if he came to LSU as a PWO. Cameron and Connor both are on scholarship. It was just a matter of thinking about the future. They have not automatically given the job to Colby but Colby has out kicked Trent so far this year. Expect Colby to take the job back with Jack to get a few FG//PAT reps. Cameron will handle KO duty. Thanks

Maybe, just maybe, we've not had enough players arrested for fighting or smoking so those schollies didn't come available. No wait, Nick said that wouldn't have mattered.
Never mind, I've got it. We wont be kicking any field goals. Just give the ball to L.F.

Pretty shitty move regardless of why you did it.
I understand big college football, but basically kicking off a Groza watch senior kicker to save room for younger kickers and whoever else is one of those things that will come back to bite you in the arse.
You have a guy who you KNOW can do the job, have a potential championship run in 2016, and you cut bait with one of the most important cogs in a football team built like LSU? I hate the move.
We play for a lot of field goals, like it or not. Low-scoring, defense heavy games where we need all the points we can get.

I just don't know why we can't recruit a P/PK that can handle kickoffs as well.

He was like 11-11 at one point and then struggled.
yeah.
I still think it is shitty to take his scholarship, but i feel like kickers should know they are all on borrowed time. Not a lot of backups needed.

This is what happens when you kick the ball out of bounds w 50 seconds left leading Bama.

Interestingly enough that gif is from after he kicked it out of bounds against Alabama.

Keeping Gamble lets us continue to make bets on whether he can keep it between the sidelines on kickoffs. Clearly he can't get it between the goalposts, even his HS didn't let him attempt field goals.
To be fair, I am a little biased towards a kid that was a local HS kicker that Wade Richey said had NFL potential after working with him. His mistake was taking a year off from football before trying out after his freshman year at LSU. Still think 2/3 from 50 yards during a tryout with a snapper and holder he'd never worked with wasn't too bad. Oh well, thanks to TOPS, no worries. Wait, John Bel, what'd you say?

Let this be a lesson to kickers thinking of walking on and trying to earn a scholarship. If you have an offer at a FBS school, take it. That is unless you don't mind walking on for all five years.
