This transfer portal stuff is getting out of hand. Not just us but there are tons of big names across the country who enter the transfer portal at the drop of a hat. This can’t be good long term for college football.

Nope. I agree. CFB is a shitshow with NIL and transfer portal.

I don’t understand paying players and free agency in college sports. What does the NCAA do anymore ?

You’re letting players bid for cash. Is this reality ?

I don’t like how it impacts my football team, but at the end of the day who am I to throw a fit about where a kid chooses to go to? It’s his life and his decision.

We wouldn’t have had Burrow without the ability to transfer.

Thankful for 2019 but I hate the portal and NIL. And I also hate lame penalties like targeting, blind side block, etc.

The sport is not the same. Sad

Good. Freedom and free markets are good.

It is what it is. Coaches can come and go at the drop of a hat, so it seems fair enough. LSU fans are mad right now because we are losing people to the portal at our expense. Michigan State fans for example probably love the portal because it helped them get back to relevance very quickly. Like it or not, college football has changed. Players and coaches are mercenaries who work for the highest bidder. Adapt or get left behind.

It's definitely good, LSU doesn't go 15-0,and a BCS Title without it.
You either adapt or become a dinosaur and forget about BCS Titles.

It's not the portal. It's the free transfer without having to sit out.

Combine that with NIL, and you have defacto free agency.

Transfer portal is pure shite. Inmates are running the asylum. I can live with grad eligible transfers, but it's got to go back to a 1 year sit for undergrad transfers.

Ultimately the kids:

1) earn a lot more for their school than they’re getting in value back, especially at P5 schools, and so NIL is good for them, even if it’s worse for the core spirit of the sport

2) deserve the right to be able to chase their dreams, and the transfer portal lets them do that…even if it’s worse for the core spirit of the sport

Didn’t Burrow transfer under the old rules? He was a grad transfer with 2 years left so he was able to play immediately. That’s different than leaving a school a year after you signed to be able to immediately play anywhere you want.

I didn't see anything wrong with the way it was. If a player transfers to another school in the same conference, he sits a year. There need to be some type of stipulation or contengency in place that makes them think twice about it. Especially the ones who are butt-hurt about not playing right away and want to take their toys and go home. I also think these big time NIL deals need to have non-compete clauses or buyouts if a player is poached by another school and tries to leave for another team and NIL deal. Should be "Pay to stay" IMO. Otherwise this combination will be a revolving door you hold your breath on every year.

Burrow was a Grad Transfer. Not a product of the toxic portal we see today. He actually spent 3 years at OSU and competed. We now have Freshman transferring after 1 semester because they don’t think they are playing enough. There is no more sit, learn, and develop and earn your playing time.

This! I hate to say it but Transfer portal + NIL = Beginning of the end for college football as we know it.

If I’m a coach, why go recruit a high schooler who may take a yr or two to develop when I can go get someone from the transfer portal who has experience and benefited from some other program’s investment. This plus the NIL and it’s basically turning into professional sports.
