Then it seems like 15 top athletic universities can “buy” 90 percent of the talent and competition amongst the remaining 90 % of colleges is non existent.

Now you have television revenue for the top 2 conferences and the rich get more richer-the hell with the other conferences. You are basically a profession football club. The traditions and competitions don’t exist anymore because recruiting cannot be competitive.

To me comradery felt with student athletes as a student or alumni is diminished with thee free agent marketplace, which takes a lot of the fun out of collegiate athletics.

Why shouldn't a student athlete be free to attend a different university like any other student would be? The fact that they haven't been until very recently is an indictment of CFB, which historically placed unnecessary and unethical restrictions on student athletes.

You either adapt or become a dinosaur and forget about BCS Titles.

If I'm not mistaken, Joey B was a graduate transfer. He would have been able to transfer regardless of the transfer portal.

ETA: I've been in education for 32 years and the transfer portal makes me think of those kids now days that you discipline and they run to the restroom and call their mama because the teacher got on to them! Their enabled, just like these players entering the portal. I'm not getting what I want so I'll take my toys and go somewhere else! Frickin ridiculous!

It’s horrible for the sport.

I’ve said it before, but they are killing the Golden Goose.

Can coaches, admins, trainers, etc freely leave? Yes? Then so can players.

End of discussion.

Not sure I like it, but I understand how a player could feel differently.

I think I am going to miss the old college football.

Bad. I don’t like it at all. But like with NIL we will have to find a way to use it in our favor.

I don't know why people still bring up Burrow when talking about the new transfer rules.

Burrow graduated, so he earned the right to play right away. According to previous rules. He was also a guy who was not starting.

Guys today are transferring after starting as Freshmen or Sophomores.

College football. It pays for everything from soccer to swimming.

NIL and the portal will be detrimental to the sport that pays the bills.

Virtually no rule implemented in the last 10 years has been good for the long term health of the sport.

I agree there has to be rules, I believe the players should be able to be paid, but if we have that, then we need to implement the old transfer rules again. We need a system of checks and balances so that this shite doesn’t get out of hand. I mean guys just switching colleges like tennis shoes. Soon college football won’t be college football anymore. Even the talks of the SEC breaking off from the NCAA are starting to seem like a real reality. It’s sad because it will make college football boring like the NFL. Same teams every year. Part of what makes college football exciting is having teams like Clemson and Cincinnati come out of the blue and seeing teams full of players from different regions of the states play each other in the postseason bowls. Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do about it.

The NCAA used to deny transfer waivers of kids who wanted to be closer to their family when grandpa or mom had a terminal illness. Screw the NCAA. They have no merit in a system where they can't understand the body they supposedly govern. Major sports have no need for an NCAA.

That said, the transfer portal is good for that reason and for playing time/coaching change reasons. Why should a player be married to a school when a coach can leave in a heartbeat. This isn't 1975.

I also believe there is a one time transfer rule, as it should be.

And yet, massive TV deals are coming down the pipe and an expanded playoff that will generate even more money.

Weird.
