Jay is the hitting coach. There is no Ghost hitting coach on staff.

But is he really?

Pitching was the identity and strength of the team last year. I remember we struggled a lot hitting last year too. But pitching certainly camouflaged and carried the team enough to make up for it. I don’t recall a year under Jay where we were excelling in the hitting department. But he claims that to be his area of expertise so I’m just curious what warrants that and if it’s more of an area of “interest” vs expertise and the team could really benefit from a proven hitting coach.

Hitting Coach

Is it normal for a college baseball program to have the head coach also serve as the hitting coach?

I could understand it if Jay were a renowned hitting guru who later transitioned into a head coaching role. Or if he had played in the Major Leagues and built a reputation as an elite hitter. But to my knowledge, he’s neither.

He even said on record last night that he plans to get even more involved and focused on the hitting moving forward. That raises a bigger question: why isn’t there a proven, dedicated hitting coach in that role?

This may be a special interest or labor of love for Jay, but in my opinion he might actually be getting in his own way if hitting is an area where this team really needs a proven/reputable coach developing that side and solely focusing on it. Would also free Jay up more I would think.

For all the people saying Jay was playing 5D chess and stacking an insane amount of games out of the gate to purge the team and evaluate every aspect, Jay finally speaks to that decision “regretfully” This team is tired and burned out in week 3. Now they are probably going to be in their heads for a while about being good. I personally think they will bounce back and make another run. But the aggressive schedule early on was so unnecessary. You have to reauthenticate. Log out and log back in.
But that’s my point. It’s not sustainable. So why do it at all? This early marathon doesn’t benefit them way down the line at Omaha. Too far removed. It would make more sense later in the season. But out of the gate that can’t be Jay’s logic. Some posters are saying he’s emulating tournament play. It’s way too early for that. Makes more sense to say he wants to play as many games early on to figure out his teams strengths and weaknesses before SEC play. THAT makes way more sense.
How dare you have common sense!
Hot take. So what would this”message” board be without “messages” why the frick do you read things on here if you don’t care for other people opinions? Sounds ironic, I’m sorry, more like “moronic” to me. Also, I’ll fix it for you. I think you meant “You don’t give a frick” don’t speak for everyone, clown.
God forbid we talk out loud here
Posters on here are saying he’s doing it to “simulate tournament play for Omaha” not audition guys for their roles early on. So my point was in reference to that. This team looks tired. 11 games in 15 days. Why do you think the bench players preformed so well last night? Could it be that they were “fresh” Hmm. Or that they are better than the starters? I’ll let you decide.
Please do. And It’s almost as if the guys that came off the bench played like they were fresh and performed a lot better than the starters who have been playing 5 games a week for the last two weeks on top of practice time…
It’s not sustainable. All this does is wear the team down early. If they make it to Omaha I doubt playing 5 games a week months ago will be beneficial by that point.

Schedule is catching up with them. Why are they playing so many games?

Two planes one Lane

Verge&Saban

Are good friends. I’d imagine Sexton will tell Nick where Lane is headed, and if it isn’t LSU, then Saban will let Verge know so they can move on to the next candidate immediately. I don’t think Nick would let Sexton play LSU like a fiddle til the end of this week. It must be LSU at this point.
