In both those games, the opponent had high yardage numbers in rushing against Tiger D. That usually points to an issue with gap integrity.

Other team's OC can help scheme against by running mis-direction to exploit it. Cutbacks, counters, delayed runs all are ways to attack defenses with poor gap integrity.

I think reviewing the tape, this might turn out to be glaring issue. Fatigue on the D-line can contribute to this. Tired players sometimes have difficulty in fighting to keep their gaps intact.

No kidding. Yet half the Rant wants a QB that had the SECOND BEST SEASON IN LSU HISTORY to leave. It is so damn stupid.

This.

Defense was just worn out. Lots arm tackling and bumping. When they would wrap up they getting carried/pulled backward.

I expect a better performance in January simply due to rest.

Need depth. Even as good as CBK was in the portal setting up a team, the depth wasn't there. Year one reality. But they fight!

Well , if you can’t sustain drives and you keep going 3 and out … defense ( with lack of depth ) , will get gassed .

More two high safeties. I think it helps you more in the run.

playing devil's advocate here...it took the 12th and 13th games of the season for depth issues to manifest themselves?

Did we sub players throughout games during the season? If so, why didn't we do that in these last two games?

Or is the depth issue being used to mask other issues like game plans and schemes?

not surprising an extremely thin defensive unit had it's two worst games our last 2 games of the year. Proud of the starting for never quitting.

Lack of depth on DL

Bad LB & safety play.

I think we finally saw the lack of depth on the DL catch up to us.

We also just aren’t that talented at LB or S. Baskerville is one of the more overrated players we’ve had in recent years (I’m sure I’ll catch flak for that) and Penn is not an SEC athlete.

It takes a toll over of the course of the season. Look at the snap count numbers compared to UGA’s DL someone posted in another thread.

As happy as I have been with the conditioning of this team, and IMO , its been superlative, there is no way with our lack of depth that the D doesn't wear down. We add some depth all around and we will be fine.

Our defense played a lot this year due to 3 and outs on offense.

Wore them down

Easier said than done. Getting Maason Smith back would be huge, but the truth of the matter is that it's gonna require an upgrade in talent at several positions too.

Our DEs were not contain guys and our LBs lacked the speed to help. It's hard to be specific without shitting on players, so suffice to say that it's not just an issue of depth

Plenty of reasons to be optimistic, but for those that truly know what they're looking at, there's a lot of work to do, and matching this year's W/L performance next year should be where expectations end.

That won't be the case here.

That will be taken care of in the next 2 recruiting classes. House didn't suddenly forget how to make adjustments and our players didn't suddenly forget how to play. The SEC schedule wore these guys down. Watch how much better they play against Purdue after 30 days off from games.

Alabama RB's did well too...Gibbs averaged 6.6 yards per carry...but Bama was only 6 of 16 on 3rd down...
