Tony Barnhart: "LSU with lots of losses on the defensive side."

Just heard him on a local radio show in Alabama. Host asked him what he thought of the LSU-Wisconsin game. He said that LSU has lost a lot of players on offense AND defense. Said that with Braxton Miller out at Ohio State that Wisconsin might be the Big 10 favorite. Said this game would be a HUGE test for LSU.
So, my question is, who are all of the players we have lost on defense? 4 starters from last year? Johnson, Ferguson, Barrow, and Loston. Not sure why that qualities as "a lot."
He talked less about LSU than he did about any of the other SEC teams and what he said was effectively wrong.
Here's my point: everything that I am hearing from SEC "insiders" here in Alabama is either wrong or dismissive. People around the SEC do not know what LSU has. The Tigers get a chance to prove it on Saturday, but I think that a lot of people are going to be surprised.

Losing your two starting interior defensive tackles and a safety with four years of extensive experience is a big deal - whether LSU fans want to admit it or not.

Tony Barnhart is a speckled pea eating Georgia cracker.

The cupboard is empty. We are dead. We are dead.

No it isn't, Whether LSU fans want to admit or not, Ego and Anthony Johnson didn't do anything great last year.....The had moments but neither was consistent........As for Loston, he was a leader but he was never gonna blow you away with his coverage skills, he was a "big hitter" who didn't really make the conservative tackle when we needed him too.
So with that said, I'm pretty confident we have gotten more athletic at safety and we have fresh bodies in the trenches that nobody knows anything about.

Meh. Craig Loston was addition by subtraction if you ask me.
I'll agree with the other stuff though.

flawed logic here. AJ was a selfish player who refused to play within the system constantly striving for sportscenter type plays. This team will not miss that. Some of you forget this is a team sport
Same theory is that aTm has one of the best secondaries in the SEC (Cant remember who sad it) because their entire back end is returning from last year.........well.....they were all shite performers last year but hey, they are all back. wouldnt that confirm aTm will have a crappy secondary again? I think so
Returning player =/= production
player leaving =/= loss of production

Every team loses players. Every year. LSU returns 13 starters overall. He did not mention the losses of the other teams.
Look, Tony Barnhart NEVER gives LSU credit. Never has. He focuses on the East and Alabama and Auburn. My point is simply that LSU has a lot of positives and the media only notices the negatives.
LSU surprises people starting this week.

Which is exactly what Barnhart is saying. We just don't know what will happen. That is what happens when players leave.

johnson didn't live up to his hype/potential/didn't play well and loston was a liability in pass coverage. both are being replaced by more talented players that should be hungry to prove themselves.

Sorry you are wrong. Johnson gave us nothing. Ego had a decent year nothing dominate and the same with Loston. Could we have used their depth coming back for sure but it was not like losing a Dorsey, Jackson, Spears and a Hill.

Wisconsin lost 7 defensive players. I feel fine about how we match up with them. Our defensive losses hurt but not anything we can't handle. Offensive losses will hurt us more this year and we will need to count on some young guys this year more than the last few years at skill positions.
I do agree that this game will be a good test on our young guys and should give us a good feel of how we can expect to progress this year. By the end of this season, if QB play is there, we should be a machine.

Wisconsin can be a favorite to beat us and win the big 10 with a whole new defensive front 7, but LSU loses some to the draft like always and it's a HUGE problem for us?

wisconsin will be a huge test bc LSU is young. but we're young every year.
should LSU win, probably.
but saying wisconsin will be a huge test isn't a slight against LSU. it's just that we don't know how it's all gonna come together yet.

I don't mean this as a shot at you, but just a general comment based on your post.
Why do LSU fans (and really, fans of specific teams in general) not realize that that they themselves know FAR MORE about their team than any national or even regional sports talking head? They are OUR team...of course we know the ins and outs. They are talking in broad strokes and get the general idea...in the same way you or I could potentially talk about UCLA's team without knowing what a UCLA fan would.
Honestly, this is why I don't listen to any of them. Unless it's just to be happy your team is mentioned on TV or the radio, we all find out far more information about our team then those guys can/will ever provide. And in many cases, it's broken in fan forums like this first AND THEN reported by the media.

He talks down LSU to stay off the subject of alabama. Bama is in serious trouble at QB. Coker doesn't know the offense and the other guy has only completed 18 passes, 14 in the same game. He's only rushed about 8 times. There's a chink in the bama armor. The perceived dynasty is over.

I think we can all agree that DT play will be improved this year. And loston was a great leader and definetly made a receiver think twice about catching a ball over the middle, but he was a liability in coverage, so think we upgraded again. And while I think Barrow could be our biggest loss on D, our LB core is gonna be good and deep. I expect a very very good defense, possibly best in the west

This. Ego had his moments though.
