you can't retire every jersey because there has to be an abundance of numbers for the team to wear.
Someone pointed out that numbers can no longer be retired, but it should be left for those that win a Heisman and title.

Tommy Hodson should have his Jersey Retired
i love Tommy... shite, growing up in Raceland just down the road from Central Lafourche, he was who I wanted to be when i'd go play football in the front yard, pretending to be Tommy the entire time....
but, no, he didn't win a Heisman, so no # retirement, IMO

No ring of honor for Tommy Hodson?
Tell us you’re under 50 without telling us you’re under 50.

Ring of Honor Level Tommy Casanova
In my opinion, Tommy Casanova was the best football player ever at LSU. He also dwarfed our DBs in a photo I saw from 2010 or 2011. If he isn’t injured his senior season, he wins the Heisman. Still made AA. He could have been an AA at RB also. As a freshman, had they allowed him to play he would have been a 4X AA.
Go look at the number of NFL seasons and honors he made before commenting on if he translated to the pros.

retire the jersey, not the number

Most people here probably aren’t old enough to remember how good Hodson was.

Football has so many players and only so many numbers. Three heisman winners can get retired, but that’s about it. Keep those special players in the ring of honor while keeping those numbers available

Jersey sure, but please no more number retiring. I know I'm the only one who feels this way, but not a fan of constantly retiring numbers.
As has been stated countless times, L.S.U. does not retire numbers any longer, so you're good.

Do they not give out trophies for SEC championships?

If we're saying jersey but not number, then hell yeah. He deserves to be recognized.

Put me down for yes! He was special. Different era of football. If lsu had him in miles era we are talking multiple titles.

I like Hodson. But he was a 4 year starter, which is almost unheard of today. He didnt win us any trophies, nor holds any single season records. If you retire his number, then you have to do the same for Nussmeier
I'm pretty sure you get a trophy for winning the SEC

Win %
.682 Nuss
,673 Hodson
Your winning % stats are incorrect.
As a starter this is the correct winning %
.685 Hodson
.652 Nuss

No way. Tommy Hodson was a very good quarterback for his era, no question—but jersey retirement at LSU should be reserved for truly generational, program defining players, not just the best of their time. His numbers, while solid, don’t separate him historically—69 TDs to 41 INTs is a modest ratio, and his production has been surpassed by multiple LSU quarterbacks in more dominant fashion. He also didn’t win a national championship, didn’t capture a Heisman, and wasn’t clearly the best player in college football during his career. Being a strong multi-year starter and setting records that were later broken isn’t enough for that level of honor—otherwise you dilute what jersey retirement is supposed to represent.
