I don't think he's very good. But Ben McDonald wasn't either when he started. Now Ben McDonald is very good. Maybe Todd Walker can get better if ESPN expands his role.

Ben and Todd are both really good. Why do people feel the need to compare the two? Just be glad we get to listen to a couple of LSU greats on the broadcasts.

I think Todd is better in studio.

Loved the comments about the draft and how once Walker got picked he told Russ Johnson good luck and left him by himself.

Those two were very cocky players back in the day.
Johnson would hit a homerun and while rounding the bases would tell the infielders is going to be a long day today boys and cuss them out the whole way around the bases.

Does he do any announcing other than the SEC tournament?

Has periodically done some Red Sox games and studio gigs for the Red Sox (NESN) as recently as 2017 - don't remember him doing any last year. I think he does a good job from an informational standpoint.

you're kidding right? He is awful.. All he talks about is himself and what he accomplished back in his day

Yes it was, and no he didn't. He said towards the end of that statement that Smoke was in between. I think his point was that Smoke wasn't there long enough, and it was still considered Mainieri following Skip.

I'm pretty sure I remember him calling the world series every year for a while now.

Todd Walker hasn't called CWS games on TV.

Met the guy on vacation once. Didn’t recognize him. Just two guys talking. He was a very nice guy. Very nice family. Only realized later who he was.

downvote for not recognizing Todd freaking Walker.

Then he was 0 for 2. We had to suffer through Laval for 5 seasons....

No

Walker is solid. McDonald is probably the best.

Todd Walker comes across as a bit of a pill, then, suddenly he drops a line, very dry, and it has me laughing aloud. I think he and K.P. are beginning to warm up to each other and feed off of each other to make for some fun broadcasting.

I thought the college major bit that entire half inning was funny as hell, and they seemed to enjoy it, too. They were likely giving each other the eye in the booth.

I like Todd and Ben but Peterson sometimes grates on my nerves.

Ben and Lyn are the best game callers on the network.

Peterson is elite and Ben is very good, but Lyn is the one who grates on nerves.

The quality knowledge flows easily from Big Ben and Kyle P.

If Lyn called games with his cornpone schtick for any other SEC school, LSU fans would treat him like Verne.

Not disagreeing, but is that your opinion?

I enjoy them both as announcers.

I think Walker is knowledgeable about hitting and has allot of good insight. But last night it seemed like he would go completely silent for 2-3 innings at a time and KP had to carry the color commentating duties. I prefer being too quiet over talking too much, but I think eventually Walker will be more polished and not have to have the other guys prod him as much for his opinion.

He's great in studio though.

I noticed this too. At times he would just go MIA for a while. When he had something to say it was usually insightful but sometimes he needed to be prodded into action.

That said, the exchange about him being afraid of heights, even though he's a pilot, was pretty funny.

I believe CPM will do a good job calling the games next year for ESPN while he watches LSU makes a late season run for a CWS trophy
