The right person could kill it quickly....that's why I hope it's Lane....his values and Saban's definitely don't align. I think Lane is one that could screw up "The Process" in short order.

With NII, Transfer Portal and Free Agency, Coach "Deep Pockets" will get the top players, at least for one year.
Then a year later, all the best players will be in the Portal seeking "Mo Money"
It will only get worse. Bowl games will look like Spring Games with all the good players "Opting Out" awaiting the "NFL Draft" so they can make "MO Money"
College football is DEAD, We just haven't buried the body yet.
That's why Saban retired

Nobody thinks they will immediately suck.

The difference is a lesser coach making adjustments at halftime means a game or 2 a year are lost by 3 instead of winning by 3.
Top tier teams are separated by 3-5 plays a game…no Nicky (hopefully) means a few more bad calls/decisions and Bama loses 3 a year

College football is in the middle of a massive change. Losing a long time HC, especially one like Saban who has complete control of the program, is going to be difficult.

It is a winning culture over there and expectations will be hard to live up to. They haven’t questioned who their coach was for a decade, haven’t had to deal with internal fighting. They could easily wind up more like Texas than LSU. Their isn’t a lot of continuity to hang their hat on over there

Miles didn't have to deal with NIL and the portal. That team is going to shatter to the winds in the next 30 days. It's going to look more like what Kelly ran into at LSU after Orgeron destroyed the team and they all walked.

A little different scenario.

Players after the 2004 season could not enter a transfer portal. They were stuck at LSU.

Alabama also has an incredibly difficult schedule

They will still have enough talent to compete. But they will look more like us with lots of 9-3, 10-2 seasons sprinkled in between title run seasons

Tell me that was an original thought! LOL

I'll ask you to remember how long it took Les to screw up the process Saban had put in place in just 5 years BR. He's had 17 at Bama those coattails alone may be good enough for 2-3 more West titles. Hate it. But watched it happen with Les.
Les was able to keep those players hostage for 3-4 years, these kids will be jumping in the portal like their asses are on fire if they want.

I'll go so far as to say that no Bama coach after Saban will ever win the west.

Les didn’t have to deal with other teams poaching guys off of the roster. Whoever replaces Saban at Alabama will. Hell, it’s already starting.

They could become Nebraska 2.0

Saban was the draw to Tuscaloosa.

Whoever they hire isn’t going to be better than Brian Kelly & Kelly was already turning the tide before Nick rolled out.

Bama was extremely fortunate to make the semifinal. If you’re worried about Bama right now you need to see a psychiatrist.

Saban stockpiled talent at LSU that couldn’t transfer away under Les.

You sad little people with Miles Trauma Syndrome seem to conveniently forget that Les was pretty damn good at recruiting.

My response was to how long it took for LSU/Miles to fall off after Saban. In todays landscape, it would have been a quicker process. Try to keep up

Who gives a shite?

Of course they’re still going to be good but there will be a drop off gradually and nobody is going to duplicate what Saban did there.

They won't suck, but they certainly won't be the boogyman of the west for a while.

Then to be honest, how many people would Saban have "run off" from DiNardo's roster when he arrived? He wasn't the most welcomed replacement at the time.
Some people seem to forget that, for all of his faults, DiNardo left a pretty good roster for Saban to build on.

It took Les so long to “mess up” LSU because you mouth breathing idiots were sitting around running your stupid arse heads about “saban built it” for 11 f’n years! The best years of LSU football. A run of winning seasons only bested by Saban and Alabama. And then after 11 years of absolutely legendary football you dipshits will still shite on the man.

This is so dumb.

Les Miles was a very good coach until 2012. After that he became a stubborn, dumbass that would not change with the times. And if you think Saban's coat tails are so long as to allow O to win a natty at LSU, you are smoking the really good herb.
