Sad way to start the post Frank Wickes era.
As long as I never have to hear "House of the Rising Sun" in TS again I'm good with whatever they play.

CrunK? This is from an university? Crunk is't a real word. Play LSU songs
Victry for LSU, Hey Fighting Tiger and leave the crap to non SEC teams.
Neck? Go away. Not for LSU

It makes sense that you would want to limit choice and fun based on the poli board. It's all coming together.

I don't know about that. Rumor has it that Frank Wickes stole this song from the Oldies but Goodies station and used it even though it was not written solely for the use of LSU athletics.

So, a song is making LSU's funding suffering? And if you're a student at LSU, then you are a burdening on the system to a point where LSU funding for allowing such ingorance (or ignorant person)to speak on this forum with no knowledge.

As if there are not more important things to talk about than this. If that is what the band wants to play, then they can play it. As long as they get a good response from the fans, and they did in atlanta, then they really don't care what a couple people think.

I heard the band is also featuring another Ying Yang Twins song called "Sit Down and Shut the F*** Up" that is dedicated to those making a huge deal over the band playing "Crunk" this year.
It's a little overplayed here in New Orleans, but at Saints games it's fun. Maybe LSU adding it is overkill. I maybe wouldn't have added it, but I don't see the major deal. If the crowd doesn't respond much they probably won't play it much. If they do, they'll probably play it more.
And by the way, for those saying LSU has nothing to do with the Saints - one of the Saints' temporary homes after Katrina was in Tiger Stadium. So they are forever linked now in that way.
As for "Neck" being played, almost the whole stadium seems to love it and it sounds very good. So I don't see the issue there. I've heard a few visiting fans ask about the song as well.
Now if you're complaining about half time and having to hear depressing-azz "Eleanor Rigby" played when there are a million other Beatles songs that could be played - I understand. It's a good song on it's own, but it's depressing and you don't want to hear it at a football game. Or when I hear the announces say, "Enjoy the Spanish sounds of..." at half and then the band plays a bunch of Spanish songs that no one has ever heard of. I know it's half time and I'm eating, etc. But isn't the point to entertain - now put everyone to sleep.
Anyway, everybody chill out. It's gonna be okay.

Man, this is one hell of a talented board. Not only does this board contain all knowing college football coaches but superior band directors too.

Wow. Nothing brings out the bitchfest quite like one's personal interpretation of what the LSU band SHOULD be playing (or not).
Here's a big ol' news flash for many of you:
There's a lot of people in this world. Many of them like music that you do not. The Golden Band feels as though they must entertain THEM... as well as... YOU!
This is not a zero sum game where you can have YOUR music and no one else can have theirs.
Tiger Band's playlist is going to evolve whether you like it or not. Occasionally, a "non-traditional" song will make it into the list. You may not like it. Get over it.
"Jungle Boogie," "Hey, Baby," "Neck," "These Boots Were Made for Walking" and "Vehicle" were once just songs on the radio, too, before they made it into the playlist. Some stuck and became perennial favorites, and some didn't. It's really not a huge deal.
I mean, we could be like Ohio State and play freaking "Hang on Sloopy" every five seconds. At least Tiger Band mixes it up!
As for a song's association with the Saints... that seems to be a personal hangup for many of you. To be completely honest, no one really cares that you hate the Saints. The relevance of that fact extends no further than the boundaries of your own living room.

so you're saying that the saints popularizing this song and winning the super bowl has nothing to do with the band playing this song? give me a frickin break golfer
Did i say it was written for the saints? no. i said it stemmed from the saints. and if you're going to deny that you're blind

I can only continue to hope and pray that the idiots on this message board are only a small but vocal minority. If the LSU fan base consists of this many grown men who bitch like pre-pubescent school girls when the fricking band plays a song they don’t like, then there is no hope for the future of this state or university. Please sit down, watch the game, and shut the frick up.

I heard the Saints playing Crazy Train last Thursday in the Dome. But I don't hear any saints fans bitching about how they took a song that Tiger Band and Auburn's Band has been playing for a long time...
