Yes but that means it was his third year in the program. He was the number 3 or 4 guy during his second year (as a RSFr).

Not nearly up to the standars of previous years, but solid enough for the rest of the D to shine. As long as they can hold their ground, the D can do their job week in and week out. Need Herron to keep progressing as 3 will not be enough against the rest of the SEC. Great opportunity for all of them to take the next step tomorrow.

I noticed improvement last week. Remember, he didn't play at the tackle position in high school. It's a tough task to be asked to anchor the line as a true Sophomore. I have faith that he will continue to get better and be a very solid player for us. The majority of posters on this board expect the young DT's and LBers to excel at the level our young players in the secondary do, which isn't fair. Natural athleticism doesn't translate as quickly at those positions.

Outstanding DB and LB play is compensating for a big weakness in the middle of the defensive line. Props to Quinten Thomas for gutting it out, but he is playing with one arm tied behind his back, literally. I have seen Lacouture on the field, but I have not heard his name called yet this year. Our best DT is a true freshman coming of a torn acl. This unit will get exposed.

He is basically performing the job of an offensive lineman keeping OL from getting to the linebackers. This is actually not a bad thing in many defenses, but our defensive greatness in the recent past has been predicated on play-making DL getting into the backfield.

I have not seen one play this year in which he penetrated the backfield and caused havoc.

I don't think he has that capability.

He doesnt get a lot of penetration, but he also holds up well at the LOS. Rarely gets pushed back. It would be nice if he started making some plays though

If true, he should have sat the last two weeks against Sam Houston and ULM to heal/recover.

In the ULM game I noticed LC in on a tackle and in the backfield disrupting the play, especially when ULM was backed up against the goal line. With our LBs weighing under 240, except Beckwith, we need the DTs to plug the LOS and allow the LBs to flow to the ball. I don't think we want them shooting gaps and leaving our LBs to fend off OGs.

I judge him on his performance against the only decent O-Line he has faced this year, Wisconsin, and it was bad. Got pushed off the line, did not make plays, and made it tough on our linebackers.

That is Welter's job

LOL... Im sure your joking. Welter always gets tied up with with a lineman 3 to 4 yards from the ball and is not making any backfield tackles. Beckwith at least gets closer to the backfield them him.

It seems like the DL are just space fillers and there to eat up lineman at the line of scrimmage while LB fill the holes. Problem is Welter still has never filled a hole.

first of all, LSU is spoiled when it comes to DT play. secondly, you absolutely do not need 325 lb guys at tackle. i would rather have a rotation of 285/295 lb guys, than two 325 lb starters. the fourth quarter shows where LSU is better than most schools.

He is the most important part of our defense. He takes up blockers so that our linebackers can flow to the ball. And he does a very good job of this. If you'll watch the Wisconsin game it wasn't so much him getting blown off the ball as it was our linebackers missing tackles and us losing contain/taking poor angles. This got corrected in the second half. Hell, LaCouture gets double teamed A LOT. His job is to hold his ground and he usually does.

That said, I would like to see him getting in on more tackles and being more disruptive, but you look back at our DT's that have played that role like Brockers and Ego, they were not the Dorsey type linemen. They took up blockers so that our fast and athletic LBs and DBs can come up and explode to the line of scrimmage making the tackle. Obviously, the NFL recognizes this role as important. Not everybody is supposed to be the sack man.

I think LaCouture serves his purpose very well. I wish ALL of our DTs and DE's would use their hands more to disengage blockers.

He's young and will likely improve with playing time. I'm just glad he changed his mind and left the Cornhuskers to play for the Tigers. We were pretty thin and Chavis likes to rotate a lot of bodies so he has served his purpose.

Considering our secondary I'm not so sure our DL needs to rack up huge stats. As long as they control the running game, we'll be in good shape. Sometimes quick lineman tend to overrun the play so their occasional sack is diminished by failing to stop third down conversions or a big play.

These guys are plugging the middle and doing pretty well since the first two quarters against Wisconsin.
