Fournette's power, Faulk's elusiveness, and Toefield's/Alexander's burst of speed. Had a great name as well. One of the very best running backs in LSU and SEC and NCAA history. Probably the best 1st game of any college player in LSU history/memory (at Florida to start the season). Became a household name after just 1 game.

Super powerful legs.
Agile AF.
Tough as nails.
Fast enough.
Great vision.
Great cut back ability.

One of the best ever.

Actully that Florida game was not his first. We played Oregon St. and Rice I think before traveling to Gainseville and upsetting the No. 4 Gators.

But that was definitely his coming out party and left no doubt that he, and not James was the star running back. And that's no slight on James. Dalton was just better.

Dalton remains one of my alltime favorite Tigers. To this day, we haven't seen another back at LSU with the moves and cutting ability he had. He zigged and zagged and juked like no other, and you couldn't line up a clean hit on him. And then when he did make contact, he blew people up. Not like Fournette (who was just a big ol' fast dude)...
People who never saw him play, didn't realize that he weighed about 200 lbs at best, but had the legs of an offensive lineman- maybe bigger. He'd hit you with that leg drive, and you'd see linebackers' helmets whiplash. It was like they got hit by a pulling guard.

Yep. Remember the Saints announcer saying he had a 28” waist but if he bought off the shelf pants he needed a 40” waist to get his thighs in them.

If not for Dalton, Eric Martin might never have been the star he turned out to be.

Really? How so?

Because of Hilliard, along with James, they converted Martin to wide reciever. Martin was an RB his freshman year and only converted because Hilliard was such an unexpected find at RB.

I grew up watching Dalton. Handed the rock off to him as a freshman QB at Patterson.
You could never understand how quick he was til you try to hand the ball off to him over tackle. It was amazing to watch Dalton in Jr high and HS from the sidelines.Barry Sanders type but with the wrong Saints team.
Super talented and his quads were as big as u think.

I saw him in the Quad at least every week or two. I remember seeing him one day with his "L" letterman jacket. Same height as me, but that's where any similarities ended. He had some massive thighs which gave him his power.

He seemed to have a breakaway run every game. Although sometimes he would get run down from behind, at least he put himself in that position. One of the best.

My dad is 57, and when we talk football, he says that he say dalton hilliard two times, once in high school in the dome, and once when he was in college, and the thing that he mentions most is that dalton’s legs, mostly his thighs, were so unbelievably thick

I saw this link on another thread. YouTube LSU 1982 Season Highlights and you’ll find the same. Check out 3:48 Mark for a trucking as impressive as any by Fournette or Hester. #7 for Bama was a rag doll.

No one in NFL history has a better completion to touchdown ratio than Dalton Hillard

4 completions all 4 were touchdowns.

He had a lot of faith in his talent. If you remember Gary James from West Jeff was signed sealed and delivered and Dalton still signed on. He was LSU through and through! He needed up the better player. Guy had thighs the size of my waist.
