EVERY thing that I have ever gotten autographed either with my kids or for my kids has remained in our posession.

Believe me it's for my kids ... when my 2nd son was in third grade he was questioning Santa. He wanted matt flynn for Christmas. But instead he got a Matt Flynn autographed tshirt, jersey and pics. All obtained by me legally by having met his mother who agreed to let me mail it to her and she mailed it back at my expense.

I would NEVER get rid of any of it ... and to those saying that it's partly the fault of the players (someone on page 1) NO it's not. If they DO NOT sign autographs then they're rude, ugly, mean ... they're in a no win situation. I've never had a player tell me or my kid no when the boys wanted to wait outside the football or baseball locker rooms ... every single one was so polite. I'm not saying that they LIKED it but they sure didn't let it show!

eta: one time I saw Big Herm's mom at Fan Day I think it was. Asked her if we could send somethign to have autographed for our collection as FD ended before we could get Herm's autograph. She took my e-mail and said she wasn't sure because she never knew what people really did with what he signed and he didn't want to get in trouble. Smart momma ... told her thank you and that I completely understood. Which I truly did.

My attempt at a summary to this point
I do not think that people buying/selling for profit is right for a few reasons, some facts some just my opinion. I am not trying to be judgmental about others who want autographs-unless they are making a profit off it from LSU players and then I have a number of issues with it.
Most of what is posted on this thread is opinion.
1) Do autograph seekers take time away from college athletes? We all agree they do, but it is mixed as to whether this hurts the player’s ability to perform by taking away private time etc.
2) People getting autographs from LSU players and re-selling them for profit or trading them for value is not illegal (other than NCAA rules, although they guess IRS might care), but most on this board do not do it and think it is wrong. Some feel it is ok.
3) Autographs must not be sold or traded for money or any item of value as this could jeopardize the eligibility of the involved student-athlete. Again, almost all posters seem to agree that doing this is not a good thing, but some feel it is not a big deal and the rule would never apply here
Facts (only a few)
1 Autographs must not be sold or traded for money or any item of value as this could jeopardize the eligibility of the involved student-athlete
This is a NCAA rule, and a fact. If you are doing this you may cause a player eligibly issues and can be banned from the campus. We may disagree as to how much this happens or is an issue. For me, it is simple, it is not worth the risk and no matter what I feel about what/how/why you collect what you collect, you ARE doing something that is against NCAA rules.
2 AJ Green sold his jersey to an “agent” who apparently re-sold it. Green directly received the money at some point and while this IS a bit different from what I thought (I admit this is not directly part of what I was trying to say), it is all part of the same NCAA rule.
3 If you are a booster (I would think VAST majority of this Board is) you ARE subject to NCAA rules.

If someone wants an autograph, no big deal. However, the person doing the autograph is giving something of himself/herself. I would give the deed the respect of a special moment, and consequently keep it for myself or the kid. Then again, I have a fondness for special memories. They add to character. So no, some things are simply not for sale, but that is my perspective.

S0 how do you guys feel about big companies like TOPPS & UPPER DECK selling Kevin Gausman signed and game-used cards? Even crazier they have been distributing Gausman since 2009.

Autographs cant be sold by a player or said player cant be given money for autographs or Memorabilia. That would be an NCAA infraction. The UAS cards above are OK (loophole) as its for team USA. If you, Myself, or the pope get Jordan Jefferson autograph and put it on ebay for 10K, Jordan Jefferson cant get into any trouble unless I pay him something for it up front. The seller could possibly get into something if they are marketing it as an LSU Jordan Jerrerson Signed whatever but thats a stretch also.

I do agree with you about it being frustrating trying and get an autograph, (which I dont care to do) and you have a guy with a dolly load of items to get signed before you. That's why signings of pro players mostly come with a fee. I don't really care for autographs but I know some people do and I think its OK. Those people that truly chase them for their own collection would be pissed if they waited in a line for 4 hours to be turned away at a free signing only to see those autos going for 800 on ebay the very next day. Especially if they witnessed the seller bringing many of people wait in line with him to get around the 2 piece minimum. I guess it really a question of morals but who am I to judge. It aggrivates me also but their isnt a whole lot you can do

I think he was laughing at the fact that you think they're your friends bc you corner them into talking to you. Yeah they're glad you're a fan but they aren't in china all alone with nobody they know. They go to school here, make friends at school, have team mates, etc. their day isn't made any better other than the possibility that they have a fan.

Just saying if you want an autograph you can wait next to the door under the stairwell by Gate 1 after the game. That's where players leave the locker room. They have gates set up.
