The average 12 year old kid doesn't stand a chance in a crowd like that outside the locker room door.

Thats not a trur statement at LSU. the players sign for everybody. even if it is a plastic cup the got at the game. why do i go to the locker room exit after the game? to talk to a couple players that i have become friends with during the season. do i get stuff signed ? yes!!! but i never get in the way of a kid and i make sure the kid gets theres first. i bring all my stuff home and collect it and give to my own kid.

Does this apply to Olegreg? Have you seen his collection? I don't get it where getting autographs is frowned upon. I stood in line at Fan Day and got an autographed helmet signed by Les Miles and I got to shake his hand and say hi. I don't plan on ebaying it at any point. It is for my LSU room when I am able to build one. Why is that wrong?

oh I agree...but if LSU fans wouldnt spend $20 on an Austin Nola autographed ball on ebay hen the auto hounds wouldnt do it

just wait until Omaha...those guys will buy an LSU shirt from one of the souvenir stands and will have 5 balls each getting every player to sign it because they know the LSU fans will pay a lot for it after we win the CWS, I've seen it every time its really sad

Its not. I don't do it (nor, am I really interested in it).

But, YOU do what makes you happy. Don't worry about what I think of you.

Too many people want to be dismissive of other people's interests. I don't play video games. But, a LOT of people do. It does not make me 'cooler' than them Just different.

I lol'd.

Selling the autos of college kids is pretty sleezy imho, but as another poster said they would not do it if people did not buy the stuff.

I'm not understanding what a real job has to do with this. Assuming people are getting these autographs after games it isn't like they would normally be scrambling to make it to work on time. What do you do after a game? Wait in traffic? Go home? Go to the bar? I highly doubt you rush off to your 'real' job.

I waited in line after the Spring game 2 years ago to get autographs on a blown up picture of my 5 month old holding an LSU football. I figured it would be something he could have when he gets older and appreciate it. I did not miss work to do this, I have a real job.

Collecting sports memorabilia isn't stupid. While I'm not sure how much I'd want to stand in line for a current LSU players autograph, I'd sure as hell stand in line to meet and get autographs from the players of my youth.

See I always thought of autographs as something cool and a way to remember something (you have a connection to getting that autograph)...or like in your case your son will have an awesome memory of a present his dad gave him and you will be able to tell him you got it signed

getting autographs for yourself is awesome and a cool way to remember a moment

buying it just seems meh to me, unless its a deceased player or something that you wouldnt be able to get any other way...and getting one just to sell it is

ETA: the coolest thing I own was from my grandpa who got Chris Jackson and Shaq to sign their SI covers, I was only 2 or 3 when they signed them and I didnt appreciate how awesome the present was until later in life

no issue and not my point, you "caught it" and because they are not college players....

SECMAN, where in what you said in your first post did you make it clear that it is ok if you are over 12 and caught the ball, or if it isn't college players. You are ok with grown men standing around waiting for professional autograph, but not college? stupid

What if they are selling the autograph so that they have the money to take their 8 yr old to more LSU sporting events?

What if they are trading LSU autographs for other LSU memorabilia they want, like items they remember as a child, but could never get?

Or is everyone over the age of 12 looking for an autograph or jersey automatically pathetic in your mind?

But, YOU do what makes you happy. Don't worry about what I think of you
some good posts, and as far as the legitimate kid thing lol....

as far the above- so whatever you do is fine as long as it makes you happy!!! you need to look at the impact on others-right? in this case, you are breaking NCAA rules, may be endangering the eligiblity of the athlete (just google "AJ Green, I bowl, ebay"), taking players time so you can make money and keeping someone who wants it for a keepsake from getting it (which is NCAA legal)...as far as what you collect, I agree, whatever makes you happy, not here to judge what a person collects, I am talking about re-selling and keeping others who want to just have it for keepsake from getting it. To be honest, if a 42 year old wants an autograph, fine (I do not, but ok) just do not resell it
as far as the MLB players, one of the main points of my OP was the NCAA issues, pro players do not have this risk...

Incorrect. The NCAA has no jurisdiction over "me"

may be endangering the eligiblity of the athlete

Incorrect. The athlete must be aware of it and, if it is a repeated operation (think: T-Shirt store, etc) the player / school has to try to stop it. However, there is NOTHING that is "illegal" about any one person simply collecting an autograph and later deciding to sell it.

meh....as a PERSONAL issue, I'll agree. However, I do not put one fans 'right of access' above any other's. Show up early, stand in line, do your thing.

It is not as if there is some HUGE market for this stuff so it is not like Ticket Scalpers making commercial "bank" off of this action.

these autographs must not be sold or traded for money or any item of value as this could jeopardize the eligibility of the involved student-athlete.

guess this is my main point...I do not know others on this board as far as the collectors etc, but would ask if they are ok with re-selling or trading and risking players eligibility? Because, I am not OK with them doing it and I bet AJ Green and UGA fans are not...so of course collect whatever you want and I will not judge this- fine...but resell or trade it and you are putting yourself above every other fan at your school...why would you do it? for this simple point is there ANY other way to see it? (here come the ncaa rules are stupid everyone breaks them...but to me that is not an excuse, rules are rules)....
