Saban says the most difficult thing about following a national title is motivating 18-22 yr olds

The offense's 3rd down & redzone efficiency is dried up dog shite.

I've also heard him speak about complacency. Drives him crazy when people become complacent and content with their recent accomplishments.

saban has a winning process and does not deviate from it. It works as he has won 6 national titles. The man knows what he is doing.

True - but it’s not like Saban didn’t have his own learning curve on this issue. Both of his first two national champions (LSU and Bama) finished with three losses. Not terrible, but not the Saban we see now.

It’ll be interesting to see how they respond against UGA, and how LSU responds against Florida.

I think it's safe to say Bama is in a much better position. From a recruiting standpoint Bama, UGA and Clemson rule the land followed by everyone else. We struggled with Trask last year with a veteran D and an established, elite DC. Saturday could get ugly, early.

Special players make special teams

We don’t have very many special players right now.
Not saying young guys won’t evolvr to that, we just not there currently.

yep and focus. It's a struggle he has had with winning so many so I would think he knows what he is talking about

LSU had JB who is an incredible leader and I am sure he led by example for the entire team. Hard to replace that not to mention all the other guys who were not only talented but probably good leaders as well.

even if you do everything right sometimes it just doesn't work, even for the mighty saban. But, as you suggest, he's always working on it.

just like team chemistry - you can't make it happen. you can foster it, create the right atmosphere, etc., but it's something that does have to be born on it's on.

To some degree Saban leads a joyless life. His focus never deviates from the process and what is next to continue to win. The national championship is just the inevitable result of following the process. Not cause for some grand joyous occasion. He wins the NC on Monday...then is out recruiting on Tuesday like he just finished an 0-12 season. There is no overwhelming joy in winning a game. He jus moves on to the next one. That's where the consistency comes from.

O very much lived the life of a celebrity during and following the NC run. However, it is hard to blame him for doing so. He had just reached the pinnacle of college football after decades of being told he had zero shot to get there. He was enjoying the fruits of his labor. The downside of that is it, by human nature, makes it harder to essentially re-start the next year.

If you want continued success, you have to intentionally counter the normal human responses... and you do that through focus on process.

Yea, totally normal year, not like we lost almost all the starters and players were kept away from campus for months at a time.

You have to be paranoid to be a winner.

Going 0 for 10 on 3rd efficiency and lack of a consistent running game is a sign of struggle. If we would've converted 60% of our 3rd downs and rushed for at least for 120 yards, we would be 2-1 right now...even with the poor defensive effort.

we're several rungs down from normal. and possibly one rung up from being the worst in the conference.

Alabama is #2 and UF is #10 with essentially the same stats we have on offense and defense. We could be 3-0 and top 10 with the same shitty performance except for a few plays going different.

Still hopeful because I was not yet convinced that O was a terrible evaluator of coaching hires, and now, how well his defense is shaping up to be.

Bama and UF played competent teams.

If LSU were actually 3-0 right now, none of our opponents would have a win at this point.

We're one Marshall ankle injury away from being completely inept on offense.
