It's 100% normal human nature to slack off big time after a major success. That's the way everyone else does it.

If you want continued success, you have to intentionally counter the normal human responses... and you do that through focus on process.

2019 was fun. O will probably get us there again someday. In the meantime, LSU is just normal... nothing special.

One of many reasons why Saban is elite. We were lucky to have him.

This is human nature in general at all levels! Look at people that bust their asses in their jobs, most get that big raise then get complacent. Pro athletes play their asses off to get that big contract and a lot of them afterwards can give two shits.

I'm not saying that is the only thing that is going on here but it sure in the hell makes you think! Not everyone does it, but a lot sure do!

It's in everything... a great skill to learn and develope.

Mike a nice sale? Make the next sales call. It's so simple, yet so tough.

So why isn't the offense struggling ? Your premise is BS

We have played 3 of the worse teams in the league and we're 1-2 and got embarrassed in those two loses so there you go!

You do realize that it doesn't have to happen across the board right?

I dunno if I'd go that far. Add in all the legit changes to the complacency and the loss of focus at the top, and it all spells the disaster we currently see.

That said, the next part of this is that human nature usually has an "oh shite" moment after the complacency and gets back on track.

We'll probably finish better than most think.

Saban learned from experience. 2004 LSU and 2010 Alabama had big letdown seasons.

No reason Ed can’t learn the same lesson and get better.

This is a completely different team than the one that won the championship.

The 2020 team has to earn their wins.

No one ever had to explain that to me during life. I question why it would need to be explained to these guys especially since most were backups last year - they all have a lot to prove.

2004 LSU went 6-2 in the SEC. They were one call away from beating an Auburn team that won the SEC and went undefeated. They lost by a point.

By contrast, LSU 2020 already has two SEC losses to horrendous teams.

You realize the choices here are :
1. Only the defensive players are suffering the alleged premise of the OP, or
2. The premise is misguided.

I'm thinking the probability of 1 leaves it extremely unlikely so I'm going with 2.
And yes, I understand the nature of let down, complacency, accepting mediocrity, etc .. in this case, it's just not true.

We have a defensive coaching problem, period.

I remember it well

2004 LSU also struggled badly with Oregon State, Troy, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss. Got pummeled by Georgia, and that 6-2 record was against a bad SEC that year, only 4 teams finished ranked by the AP.

We played 3 teams that finished ranked and lost all 3. That wasn’t a very good team.

our offense isn’t bad by any means but i would consider going 0/10 on 3rd down against juggernaut mizzou to be “struggling” in some form or fashion

Then why is Bama giving up 473 yards per game and over 30 points despite continuity with DC Golding (at Bama since end of 2017) and a veteran D with much less attrition?

All that with a 5 star roster and the greatest defensive mind in Saban.

Bama certainly isn't in the same boat we are in right now, but our turnover in players and coaches is unprecedented in the history of returning CFB champs. I still don't think we should have lost to MSU and Mizzou, but the 2020 season is so far out of the norm I don't think we can make projections based on the 2020 outcomes.

Saban is 100% the goat college coach.

Love O......he’s not Saban. I’m ok with that.

It’ll be interesting to see how they respond against UGA, and how LSU responds against Florida.

AKA the Eye of The Tiger. We put it on the 50 yard line of our field but we apparently don’t preach it in our building

The offense is struggling, look at 3rd down conversions for an example. This is against dog shite opponents too.
